6. Ocean Eyes

Gilbert & Anne explored the minuscule forest of Avonlea as though it were a tropical Jungle swarming with the most exquisite wildlife, kaleidoscopic parrots, fierce lions and enormous elephants gallivanting through rivers. Gilbert could almost not keep up with Anne's rapid imagination.
"Anne? Would you rather we read the story here? Or at my house?" Gilbert broke the chain of Anne's imagination for a moment to ask her.
"Just imagine. Pouring over the delicate pages beside the gushing stream. Oh how romantical!" Anne exhaled lost in her thoughts. She was slapped across the face by her own words, "not us being romantical. But the scenery. I think it's best we retire to your house to finish Wuthering heights." Anne rambled nervously.
"I must agree." Gilbert spoke, sighing to himself as a slight grin appeared on his face.

"Have you always had such imagination or does it come from being an avid reader?" Gilbert inquired.
"I believe everyone possesses an imagination, however, some excel in enhancing reality more than others."
They arrived at Gilbert's home as the sun descended into the unknown.
"It's practically night time! Did we really take that much time to come from school?" Anne pondered aloud.
"The evening times are becoming limited as winter nears. That's all. It's only half past four." Gilbert told Anne. He unlocked his door and led Anne in.
Anne was forcibly reminded of previous time they were in each others company, as Anne's thoughts became clearer, Anne used her talkatively to simmer them down.
"You should invite ruby here one time." Anne babbled.
"And why would I do that." Gilbert was bewildered by Anne's unpredictability.
"Why not?" Anne said, "the two of you would make quite the pair," Anne lied.
"But I don't want to be with ruby. I want to be here with you, right now." Gilbert stole Anne's eyes, figuratively speaking. As she glanced at him. Anne blinked, "L-L-Let's read n-now." Anne stuttered.
Gilbert launched himself onto his armchair, curling up into the corner. Anne took residence of the sofa, her feet on the ground, respectfully as she was at someone else's abode.
"Relax, Anne." Gilbert saiid, soothingly.
An hour or two passed before Anne Finished the story saying
"I lingered round them, under that benign sky: watched the moths fluttering among the heath and harebells, listened to the soft wind breathing through the grass, and wondered how any one could ever imagine unquiet slumbers for the sleepers in that quiet earth."
Gilbert cheered and applauded Anne, jokingly as the book came to a close.
Anne stood up and curtsied. "Why thank you."
Gilbert mockingly tossed transparent roses at Anne, chuckling as he did so. Anne burst into a pile of laughter, collapsing on the sofa.
Gilbert adored Anne's laugh, which she despised, naturally. Her laugh was contagious, it illuminated even the darkest of rooms, alike to an eternal candle that's flame could never be blown out.
The last ray of daylight was watching over them and was soon to be consumed by the duskiness of the approaching winter sky, Gilbert had abandoned Anne, in an ever so courteous manner, in search for candles.
The darkness engulfed the house no longer as Gilbert ignited the wicks of many candles, he retired back to his previous place on his armchair.
"Feel free to read aloud to me everyday." Gilbert joked, masking his true desire to spend time with Anne.
"I have a story club. Diana, Ruby and I and more often than not, Cole. You should join." Anne invited Gilbert.
"And what mysterious ongoings occur at this storyclub of yours."
"I shouldn't have said that. It's just.. It's more of secret club where we write complex tales of Tragical romance, Crepuscular Forests and Exotic adventure. Just close friends." Anne said rather untactful.
"Am I not a close friend?" Gilbert implied, an amused smirk tugging at his lips.
"You are. But, well you're my friend but you're not awfully close to Cole, Ruby or Diana. Are you?"
"I suppose not. And besides." The candlelight added a defining shadow to his jawline, adding a sparkle to his deep, hazel eyes. "We sort of have our own thing going on; we wrote story's that day in my kitchen. You know? When we bumped heads. And then we almost..." An abrupt silence crept into the room, Anne and Gilbert avoiding eye contact.
"Sorry. I was so forward that day. I'm unsure what came over me. It's just. Just. Y-your very.. You h-have.." Gilbert's eyes stared deeply into Anne's ocean eyes, "Your eyes are ever so dazzling, like the ocean radiating the golden sun." Gilbert became transfixed by Anne's eyes that he had just compared to that of the dazzling ocean.
Anne's eyes met Gilbert's ever so passionately, they both remained still, gazing dreamily into the depths of on another's eyes.
"I should, uh, get home." Anne jumped up,
"I'll walk you." Gilbert spoke insistently, for once, Anne didn't argue.
The duo strolled, their feed dragging along the floor, covered in crisp, leaves of Cooper, Gold and Bronze. Their was no words shared between them during their walk, they didn't dare catch a glimpse at the other.
"Thank you." Anne croaked slightly from her lack of speech,
"For walking you? Your welcome"
"No. Not for that." Anne began, "for your descriptive, expressive compliment to my eye colour. It makes me gleeful to know that someone, somewhere has a fondness for my features even if it's just one." Anne, head down, stared at her feet anxiously.
Gilbert cupped Anne's chin within the entirety of his smooth hand, he raised it to it usual height as her head was facing down previously, the moonlight visible in her deep azure eyes.
"Your hair, is like a blazing fire, inextinguishable, your eyes an ocean, radiating the golden sun, your skin as white as frosty snow on Christmas morning, your lips delicate and rosy." Gilbert leaned in towards Anne, his breath melting Anne's stone cold face.
Anne watched as his lips neared, and just as he was about to crash his, soft, blush lips into hers he whispered in her ears, which resembled a robin redbreast as they were bitten by the evening chill.
"May I?" Gilbert breathed onto her ears softly as he spoke, Anne bit the inside of her cheek, apprehensive of what was to come. She nodded slowly and unsurely.
