I arrived at Emily and Sam's dressed in something nice for my birthday dinner. I wore a black dress, that reached mid-thigh and sleeves that travelled to my wrists. I had bought it just for the party. It was the day of my birthday and I had spent the day with Charlie and Bella. They got me some paints, the really good ones and some sketch pencils. I hadn't painted or drawn in a while and I had missed it. I checked my phone to see that it was seven o'clock and that I was on time. I noticed that the lights were off. I frowned, getting out anyway.

I knocked on the door but it was already open. I went inside to almost have a heart attack as people lept out and yelled 'surprise' as the lights turned on. I watched as confetti fell to the ground.

"Death by a surprise party," I joked. "Thanks, guys."

The party went on, with me drinking (without Sam watching over me as he was on patrol).

I was slightly drunk by the time ten o'clock came around and by slightly I mean I was drunk and leaning on Paul, attempting to not fall asleep.

"You obviously can't handle your alcohol," he spoke up.

"I've had like four shots on top of whatever was in the punch you made," I argued, my words slurring.

"You can stay the night at mine, so Charlie doesn't see you like this," he offered. I nodded my head.

"You're the best, Paul," I muttered.

"What are friends for?"

"For dancing," I replied, stumbling up and grabbing his hands. "It's my birthday and I want to dance," I told. It didn't take much persuading and we were dancing.

I then danced with Embry and then Jared and then Kim (Jared's imprint) who I had only met that night. Kim and I became quick friends.

Around eleven o'clock my phone began to vibrate in my pocket. It was an unknown number. I frowned, moving outside to answer the call.

"Hello," I slurred, having drunk a bit more in the hour. There was no answer. "Hello," I repeated. Again no answer. Then it hit me, who would be ringing and not saying anything. "Jasper, is this you?"

"Happy Birthday, Sky," he wished, his voice soft.

"It would be happier if you just left me alone," I spat back. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a party to get back to."

With that I hung up, feeling the pain in my chest again. The one I thought was gone. I was wrong.

I woke up the next day with a slight headache. I had never been one to get hangovers. I drank the water that sat on the table next to the sofa.

I got up, grabbing my stuff. I looked onto the table with the glass of water on it. It was a note from Paul.
