I was dragged by Emmett into the living room to discuss battlefield strategy or whatever, something which I was not looking forward to. I sat down on the sofa, wishing I could actually sleep.

"Aro will want us incapacitated before he attacks. Jane and Alec will try and take me out first because I can anticipate their moves," Edward explained.

"Having Sky is an advantage, they don't know what she can do," Emmett added. "We can work on it more, you can control people non verbally, but not for long, we gotta get that better."

I stared at him, "No fucking pressure there then Emmett."

He shrugged, smiling slightly.

"Too bad we don't all have your shield," Garrett addressed, his eyes on Bella.

"Doesn't help me fight, though," Bella reminded.

"No, but you could help the rest of us, if you could project it," Tanya told.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean shield someone other than yourself."

"Is that possible?" Bella questioned.

"Gifts can be developed. Overtime. Sky's started only verbally," Carlisle revealed.

"At first, mine was just in my palms. Now I can radiate it all over my body," Kate agreed.

"How do you do it?" Bella asked. Kate tried to answer but couldn't. Bella grabbed her hand, a bit too hard. "Tell me."

"Ow."

While Bella was working on her powers, Carlisle and Esme were with me trying to better mine. Benjamin and Tia joined us, Benjamin offering to be the test subject.

"I feel bad though, I don't like controlling people," I admitted. "It feels horrible."

"The Volturi don't care about kindness, Sky," Esme spoke, her voice soothing. "And Benjamin doesn't mind."

I nodded. Sighing, I stared at Benjamin, imagining my thoughts reaching out to him. I imagined my order going from my head to his. It took a minute but he began walking towards the door, stopping when he reached it and standing there. I stayed concentrating. It lasted another thirty seconds before he turned back around.

"You did it," he breathed.

"Not for very long though," I whined.

Esme wrapped her arm around me in a side hug, "But longer than before. Let's try a few more times and then we'll go walk Kiki."
