Your P.O.V.
I nervously paced up and down the white hallway outside my mom's hospital room, waiting for the doctors to let me in. My mom had cancer and had been in the hospital for the past week and a half while the doctors tried to help her but at this point there was little they could do for her.
Doctor Murphy's head poked out of the doorway. "You can see her now." She said before disappearing back into the room. I walked in as tears threatened to fall down my face.
Mom looked up when she saw me. "Y/n" I walked to her bedside and looked her in the eye. "Mom, you can't leave me." My voice broke as memories of better times came flooding back. "Y/n, I know this is hard for you but you have to except it. There is something I need you to promise me though."
I looked up from her hand and the tears finally started to fall. "What is it? I'll do anything for you."
She squeezed my hand lightly before speaking. "I want you to find your dad. I want you to live with him at his home in Manhattan." She handed me a slightly yellowed envelope. "There's a letter in here for you with all the information you need to find your father. There is also a copy of your birth certificate in case he doesn't believe you're his daughter."
I reached out and took the envelope. "I promise I'll find him. For you."
Mom smiled up at me for the last time before she started coughing. Her whole frame shook and Dr. Murphy rushed in to see if she was ok.
When mom stopped shaking she was completely still. "Y/n" Dr. Murphy said hesitantly. I looked up into her kind brown eyes and I knew what she was going to say. "She's gone, Sweety. I'm sorry." When I heard those words I couldn't take it anymore. Tears streamed from my eyes like waterfalls.
"No..." I whispered as I grabbed mom's hand and held on like it was my only lifeline. "Why now?"
I don't know how long I sat like that, sobbing and whispering to my mother, who would never hear another word. Dr. Murphy's hand on my shoulder brought me back to reality. "Mr. Coulson and Peter are here to see you."
I slowly sat up, tried to dry my face off, and walked out with her.
When Peter saw me he ran over to me and crushed me in a hug. "Y/n I'm so sorry! You deserve so much better than this."
I sniffed and looked up to see his face. "It's not your fault. I knew it was coming for a while."
"Ahem" Coulson cleared his throat behind Peter. We broke apart and turned to face him. "Hi Uncle Phil" I managed to squeak out while trying not to cry.
"Hey y/n. We're here to help you get your things together and then find your dad."
I cocked my head in confusion. "How did you know about that?"
"Your mom told me a few weeks ago." He said looking down.
"Oh, ok. I guess we should go"
Peter slung his arm around my shoulder and Coulson put a gentle hand on my arm as they led me out to the car.
"Wait a minute!" I mentally slapped myself. "I have to read my mom's letter so I know who my dad is before we have any hope of finding him."
"Oh yeah. I guess we'll wait in the car." Peter removed his arm from my shoulder and got into the car as I pulled the letter from my bag.
It read:
'Y/n, if you're reading this it means I am long gone. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you about your father before but I couldn't bear to talk about it. He is very well known and you should have no trouble finding him. Your father is Tony Stark. I met him 15 years ago and I thought we loved each other. Apparently he didn't love me as much as I thought and he left me shortly after I found out I was pregnant with you. I never got the chance to tell him he was a father. I hope you find him and that he treats you like the princess you are. I will always love you and you will always be my baby girl.
Much love,
Mom'
I put down the letter, fighting back tears, and made up my mind. I would find my dad if it was the last thing I did. Besides if he lives in Manhattan I won't be to far from Peter's house in Queens.
With that in mind, I hopped in the back seat with Peter and we drove away towards my house to pack everything i need before finding my dad.
