Chapter 16 - New World

~Link's POV~

He could hear voices as he crouched outside Harley's room, ready to go in at any second. It was weird though… the only person he had seen go in was Harley, no one else should have been in the room. Then he heard yelling, but he could just barely make out the words.

'You DARE defy me!? I am the one thing that keeps you alive…' the rest of the words were lost as the man's voice got quieter. But then he heard screams of pain that Link knew for certain were Harley's.

'Just a few more seconds.' he told himself as he heard the voice yell something again. Harley defied it, the voice yelled back even angrier and Harley screamed in pain. Then he could hear Harley saying words, but he couldn't make them out. Leaning closer to the door, so that his ear was almost touching it but not quite, he could hear what Harley was saying.

"…to you. The darkest of the dark. The wisest of the wicked. The most talented of the talents .I… I..."

"Go on." The second voice spoke, unmistakably male.

Link couldn't risk the chance and turned wolf to dig under the house where the second voice seemed loudest. After popping out into the house he turned human immediately and silently drew his sword. Harley started to finish the pledge.

"I pledge myself to darkness, I pledge myself to The Shadowed O-" Link grabbed the silhouette by its shoulder and jammed his sword into its back, up to its heart. The thing doubled over in shock and pain. As it doubled over he could see Harley's face full of confusion and surprise. The shadow pulled back up, screeched, and then exploded into nothing.

"Hey," Link said as he wiped off his sword on the bottom of his shirt. "We need to talk."

"What did you just do!?" Harley yelled when he finally got over his shock of Link killing someone right before his eyes.

"I saved your life." Link stated plainly. "Though you should be joining him." He added as an afterthought as he pointed to the spot where the shadow stood seconds before. He walked up to Harley at pointed to the bed next to him with his sword. Terrified of what might happen to him if he disobeyed, Harley got up and quickly sat on the bed.

"What are you gunna do?" Harley stuttered in fear.

"The question is what are you going to do." Link stared unwavering in emotion. At this Harley looked up at Link with the face of a scared child and broke down into tears.

"I'm-" He spoke through his sobs. "I'm sorry. I had no other choice!" he began to cry harder and after a few seconds he spoke again. "He had been chasing me down for years. When I was twelve he… he killed my father, and he threatened to kill me. I chose to serve him…until I had worked up enough strength to kill him myself. Though I couldn't do it entirely by myself. Two years later when I was fourteen Jason finally caught me stealing their food. At first I thought I was dead, but then Sky saw me and took pity on me. That's when they took me in. For about six years I lived with them and they took care of me. I had the same room you have now… but not as awesome." He paused looking out the window into the field Link built and the mini-castle semi far off.

"Don't change the subject." Link stated as he pulled up a nearby chair and sat in it backwards, never once letting go of his sword.

"Sorry." Harley said as he stared out the window. "But the field just reminded me of something…"

"What was that?"

"The shadow you just killed, he went by a different name. But to make sure he had a backup plan, he made a double of himself when he came across this world. You just killed the double. Anyways, the field you made in your room reminds me of one he talked about all the time. One day I asked him to take me to see it, and because I had been faithful for over a year he agreed to take me. But he blind folded me so I could never get there myself." Harley paused to breath. "What seemed like seconds later we were in a completely different world. Nothing was blocky. It was the strangest thing I had ever seen."
