"Stevie, baby, open the door." he said pounding away at the door. He had been trying to get into her bedroom for an hour and he had heard nothing from her but her muffled sobs. "Come on baby." he pled. Still nothing. He had to get into that room. Maybe he could pick the lock. He looked down at the handle and saw that it would probably be easily opened. After trying for a couple of moments he was able to get the door open. As he walked in he took in the scene around him. There was a little light in the room from the lamp on Stevie's bedside table. He saw her lying on the bed, almost curled into a ball crying. He walked up to the side of her bed and began to rub her back. "Stevie, tell me what's wrong." he begged. No answer. She was giving him absolutely nothing. It seemed to him that she hadn't even registered that he was there. He continued to rub her back, trying to calm her, but nothing was working. He gave up on getting her to talk to him and was mainly just focused on getting her calm. He couldn't believe she had been doing this basically since he left in the morning. He wanted to know what Kristen had said to her that had hurt this much. He had never seen Stevie this hysterical before and he had seen every side of Stevie there was. He laid down next to her and pulled her into his arms. After a little while her crying was quieter and after about an hour had passed by (he didn't know for sure) he didn't feel her crying at all and her breathing had slowed. She was asleep. He pulled his arm out from under her and moved to take his clothing off and go to sleep with her when he saw it. He knew she was fiercely private about her journal, but it was open with a pen in it on the bedside table. He could see the pages had been tear-stained, so he knew she had written it in today. He glanced back over at her sleeping figure and just couldn't help himself. He had to know what she was feeling and he wanted to know what Kristen had said to her. He positioned his body where he could read her writing, but if she happened to wake up she wouldn't know what he was doing.
Reading her journal brought out a huge mixture of emotions. He was enraged, he was sad, he felt her heartbreak. He couldn't stop the tears from falling from his eyes as he read about the things that Kristen had said to Stevie and what she felt about them. He was so furious at Kristen, he thought if he was anywhere near her he might throw her across the room. He should have never told her about the baby that he and Stevie had lost. He couldn't believe she was so cruel, so evil to tell Stevie that she(Kristen) had given Lindsey something Stevie never could. That alone would have wrenched Stevie's heart from her chest and from what he was reading it had. Stevie still grieved privately for that child and the family she and Lindsey could have had. She blamed her inability to give him a child as a factor of why they weren't together. The more he read the more angry he was. Kristen used everything she had in her arsenal to tear Stevie to shreds. She threw out the homewrecker part, which Stevie had acknowledged was wrong, but somehow she hadn't thought of it that way about LIndsey, she had felt that it was their destiny to be together. Lindsey couldn't disagree with her. He thought they were supposed to be together too, and in his heart Stevie was never the other woman, she was the only woman. His heart broke when he read that Kristen had continued to rub in her face that he had married Kristen when he had had every opportunity to marry Stevie, and that if he was going to be with Stevie he would have left Kristen already. He was angry again that she had called Stevie old. Stevie wasn't old, but even if she was, she was perfection. She was all Lindsey had wanted. His tears fell hard as he read that these things that Kristen had said were things that Stevie had been worried about and when someone else pointed them out she realized it was true. She knew Lindsey loved her, but not enough to be with her. She didn't know how she could continue knowing that she would never be the only woman in his life. Lindsey in a way had wished that he had never read this. He hated knowing he badly he had hurt her with their affair, always making her feel like she wasn't good enough. In a way he was also glad he knew how she was feeling without her filtering it for him so he could try to fix it. He would never tell her he had read it, she would have been so angry. He turned back to Stevie and kissed the back of her head and pulled her into him, fully appreciating the fact the he had a woman that loved him more than anything else in the world. He felt the same.
