Lindsey woke the next morning to the shrill sound of the telephone ringing. He tried to ignore it but it wouldn't stop so he reached over sleeply and answered it. "Yeah?" he said grumpily. "Mr. Buckingham, this is the front desk. We know your instructions about visitors and your wife is here asking for a key to your room." the clerk said. Fuck. He started trying to wake Stevie before answering. "Um, ok. I need you to not repeat anything that I am going to say where she could understand our conversation. Can you do that?" he asked. He pulled the phone away from his face. "Stevie, baby wake up." he said trying to muffle the sound and wake Stevie at the same time. She was sitting up staring at him with wide eyes. "Yes sir." the clerk replied. "I need you to tell my wife that I will be downstairs in just a few minutes to bring her up. I also need you to arrange for someone to take my guest to a suite on a different floor before I come down to get my wife. Do you think you can do that?' he asked again. He looked over a Stevie apologetically as she stared at him with wide eyes. Realizing what was happening, she swiftly jumped from the bed and began to remove the candles and rose petals from the bedroom. She packed her things as quickly as she could, just throwing them into her bag before getting dressed herself. "Yes, Mr. Buckingham." the clerk answered and Lindsey hung up the phone. "Baby I'm so sorry I had no idea." he explained apologetically. "I know, I just wasn't expecting this. It wasn't exactly the best way to wake up." she said sadly. "I know, but baby I promise I'll get rid of her as quickly as I can. I need to figure out what she's doing here and how long she's staying. Once I get everything figured out I'll let you know something. I'm so so sorry baby." he said. She nodded and kissed him fiercely. He heard a knock at the door and put his hand out for her to stay back just in case it was Kristen. When he opened the door he saw the bellman there to take Stevie to her room. He motioned for her to come on out while he instructed the bellman to grab her things. He kissed her and walked her to the elevator, waiting for the next one to take him down to meet Kristen.

He stepped out into the lobby and was greeted by an overly enthusiastic Kristen that he just didn't want to deal with. "Happy Anniversary baby!" she exclaimed. "Do you like your surprise?" she asked. He plastered a fake smile on his face as he said, "Uh yeah, you really surprised me. Happy Anniversary." he said unenthusiastically as he led Kristen to the elevator. She was talking nonstop and he was wishing that she would shut up already. He had definitely not missed her at all. He led her into the room and sat on the couch just listening to her ramble on endlessly. "What should we do for our day?" she asked. "Oh, I have a show tonight. I've got to be at the venue in a couple of hours. Where are the kids?" he asked, trying to get a feel of how long she was staying without asking her outright. She sighed. "You always have a show. The kids are with my parents for the weekend so I could come out. I thought you had a couple days off." she said with a hint of annoyance in her voice. "I was off yesterday. I have shows the next three days." he said, trying to hint at the fact that he was too busy to spend time with her. She pouted, which was annoying Lindsey even more than usual. "Fine. Well at least I can come to the show tonight and we can spend the morning together before you leave. I was going to leave the day after tomorrow, but I've booked my return from here and I guess I'll just leave a day earlier." she whined. He nodded, agreeing with her, but secretly glad that she would only be there for the night. He wanted to get to Stevie to tell her, but he couldn't leave yet. He did need a break from Kristen already though. "Well, I've got to get a shower and start getting ready to leave." he told her, standing up and walking to the bathroom. Finally some quiet.

Kristen watched Lindsey go into the bathroom before she started checking out his room. She could tell he wasn't happy to see her, but he had left her no choice. He barely spoke to her when he did call which wasn't very often and he mainly just wanted to talk to the kids. She knew she had to come out and see what was going on for herself and their anniversary gave her the perfect excuse. She walked into the bedroom and started looking around. The first thing she saw alarmed her. It looked like someone had attempted to hide the fact that both side of the bed had been slept in, but hadn't noticed the imprint of another head on the pillow. So he had had someone there. It explained why they wouldn't give her a key to the room and he took so long getting down there. He was trying to get someone out. She started to move on when something red caught the corner of her eye. She looked down and pulled a red silk night gown from under his bed. The evidence was really piling up and she needed to know more. She had honestly expected him to be more careful than this. Kristen had always told herself that Lindsey probably was unfaithful on tours. He was lonely. Kristen got lonely too and hadn't exactly been perfect either. Although she was much more careful than he was, but she had caught him by surprise. She saw a box on his bedside table. She saw a pocket watch that had an inscription. "All of my heart, forever." she read out loud. That was pretty fucking personal she could guess where it came from. Surely she wasn't here. Stevie had better not be here anyway. Surely she wasn't that stupid to go up against Kristen again. She saw his suitcase thrown haphazardly in the closet and decided to go through it. She didn't find anything until she reached for the last compartment. She reached in and pulled out his wedding ring. He never took it off. Kristen was internally panicking. He hadn't been talking to her much and now he wasn't wearing his wedding ring. She reached into the pocket and pulled out a velvet box. She opened it and her heart sank. It was the most exquisite ring she had ever seen. She wished she could convince herself he had bought it as a surprise for her, but it was obviously an engagement ring. He was really going to do it. Her head was spinning but she snapped out of it when she heard the shower turn off. She quickly replaced the rings and hurried back to the sofa. Her head was spinning. She knew Stevie was here somewhere are she was going to have to get rid of her. Again.
