Just Be With Me [COMPLETED]

Chapter Four

11 years ago...

"Class listen up." Mrs. Morrison, our fifth grade teacher spoke up. Ending my conversation with Becky and April, I turned to face her. "Today we have a visitor who will sit in our class until Mr. Rowlock gets back from his vacation!"

"Isn't Mr. Rowlock a 7th grade teacher?" Valencia asked,

"Yes, yes he is,"

"Then why is a 7th grader staying with us?" she asked again,

"Because all the other classrooms are filled, and we had an empty seat since Brittany left,"

Susan, the popular girl in our 5th grade class, raised her hand,

"Yes Susan?" Mrs. Morrison nodded her head,

"Why don't they just come back when Mr. Rowlock gets back?"

"Well his parents need him to still get an education."

"Where is he?" Bobby spoke up,

"I'm behind you," a deep voice came from the back,

I turn to be met with piercing blue eyes. He was gorgeous; his dirty blonde hair fell past his ears and rested right on his shoulders. His skin was pale, like Edward from twilight. How did I not see him sitting behind me?

"Hi, I'm Susan!" Susan stood and moved to stand next to his desk,

He nodded at her, "I'm Colton!"

"Why are you so pale?" Harold asks,

"I'm a vampire." a smirk formed on his face,

I laugh, which catches his attention, so I avert my eyes and look at the next person who comments,

"Nuh huh, you're lying!" Kevin pouted, "My mom said it's not good to lie."

"I'm not lying," Colton smiled revealing his teeth but also showing four fangs; two on top and two on the bottom.

Susan jumped back and Kevin almost peed in his pants; the entire class pulled back from him, but I watched him in awe. His eyes met mine and we just stared at each other. His smile started to falter but his eyes remained on mine.

A voice cleared their throat causing me to look towards the source. Mrs. Morrison was trying to get our attention,

"Alright class, back to our weeks lesson," she passed us each a piece of paper, "the United States has 50 states. The one who can name the most, without cheating, will get a prize."

The whole class went to work. I was on my 15th state when something hit me in the back.

"Pssst..." I felt that something hit me again, only to realize it was a pencil eraser poking me in the back, "psst..."

I turn around to face him, "what?"

"Hi, I'm Colton!" I nodded. I began to turn back to my work when he spoke again, "what's your name?"

"Aurora." I leave it at that.

I was able to list 47 states, which sucks because I didnt win, but I did try my best. Colton has tried to get me to talk but I managed to keep my focus in class.

Once the bell rang, I met up with Bella and April outside of the classrooms, for lunch. Leaving Colton behind.

The three of us started walking to our regular table. We were used to this. Usually people liked to make little comments like "a blonde, a redhead, and an Asian walked into a ..." But I always saw us as "the one you want to sit next to because she's hilarious, the one you want to cheat off of in class, and the one all the guys have a crush on."

I felt someone watching us, I looked at a table to see Coltons eyes following us. I gave him a quick smile, hoping to undo some of the rudeness from the morning. He returned it with a sad nod. I paused for a second and noticed the sudden look of gratitude on his face. He was expecting me to sit with him or at least invite him over. I hesitated, unsure what to do. I didn't want to play babysitter, but I also knew what it was like to be alone. And scared.

"Guys, I feel bad. Can he sit with us?" When nobody argued, I approached Colton. "Hey there how was your morning?" I asked, trying to smile and be welcoming for a change.

"It was cool." The tone in his voice indicated that it was anything but cool.

"Do you want to sit with us?" I gestured to our table.

"Yeah." He exhaled deeply.

Soon all the attention turned toward gossip of the I Really Know How You Spent Your Summer Vacation kind. Colton sat next to me and bit a huge chunk out of his sandwich,

"Is it that good?" I ask

"You have no idea!"

"So, you're the new kid!" Bella chirped,

He nodded taking another bite out of his sandwich like it would run away!

"Where are you from?" April pointedly asked,

"Tennessee,"

"Why didn't you want to sit with the 7th graders?" April pointed to a long table behind him.

He looked behind him and so did I. My brother Harley was at that table and being his usual stupid self by putting ketchup on a chocolate ice cream stick. My stomach churned at the sight, so I quickly turned back around to my food.

"I just didn't want to," he looked at me and smiled,

"You like Aurora?" Bella asked, her eyes bugging from behind her glasses. I kicked her under the table, "Owwwwe!"

"She's cool," he shrugged, "even though she won't talk to me,"

"That's not true, I did talk to you earlier. How do you think you got over here?"

"Your friends have been talking to me but not you," he turns to fully face me, "why?"

"I don't know, you tell me?" I challenge him,

His smirk returns, "your intimidated by me, you think I will steal your shine and you don't want me to like you."

"Wow," I face the girls and act like he isn't next to me, "this kid has a huge ego!"

They laugh, I smile and see Colton smiling as well.
