"How's he doing?" My mom asked,

The second I came out of the bathroom I noticed my parents standing over Colton. My mom had a bag in her hand and my dad had a few books in his.

"He's showed some progress!" I look at Colton on the hospital bed,

"He will get better," my mom said more for her own hope.

"Yeah I know." I pull my phone out, "is everyone else here with you as well?"

I noticed I had a few texts from Kat and Toby. I was about to open them when I heard my moms voice,

"Yeah," she walked closer to me, "can we talk for a minute?"

I shrug, "sure." I slip my phone back in my pocket and leaned against the door frame of the bathroom. I was a good distance from them, I was closer to the window and they were closer to the door.

"Do you want to know why we kept that information from you for so long?" I nod, "our plan was to tell you once you graduated high school but when we found out that you and Colton were no long friends and that you were leaving for college, we just couldn't put the extra weight on your shoulders. I mean you had to focus on school, and if you knew that, your focus would've been on everything EXCEPT school."

"You still should have told me and let me make the decision of where to put my focus at. This was my entire life you kept secret from me!"

"We know and we are truly sorry. Then we had planned to tell you when you got back but you were gone for two years and the adoption plan slowly faded. We didnt mean nor intended to hurt you in anyway."

I huffed, "then how did Colton know before me?"

"Yeah about that! He wasn't suppose to know. Me and your dad were talking about how to tell you when he overheard. We begged him not to say anything and to let us tell you when we were ready!" She hung her head and dad scratched the back of his neck while looking out the window. Not once has this man looked me in the face in three years. "we felt guilty having him hold this kind of information from you but we didn't have any choice! After hours of pleading with him, he finally promised us, and you know he never breaks his promises!"

"Can you atleast acknowledge my existence? You haven't looked me in the face since I turned 18. Do you regret adopting me so much that you can't even look at me?" I say to my dad and his eyes finally snap to mine. I could see a battle wagging through his eyes but he eventually moved his eyes back out the window. I roll my eyes and shake my head in disappointment. I wipe a tear that escaped down my face, "unbelievable!"

"Sweat heart, please, don't cry." Colton's heart rate started to speed up, "Colton can hear you and it doesn't sound like he likes you crying."

"Why the hell should he care at all? He lied to me just as much as you guys did." I looked at her, "and besides Colt promised me a lot of things mom and your right he doesn't break his promise but the day I walked away from him, he broke the biggest promise he ever made to me. So, I don't know anymore about his promises."

Colton's monitor beeped a little faster now.

"He's in love with you!" Mom didn't say that, I turn to see dad looking at Colton, "that boy has been in love with you for so long now! If you weren't so blind you could see it."

"Oh, so he does speak but he still can't man up and look me straight in the face!" I say sarcastically to my dad, "and he doesn't love me! He has made no indication of 'being in love with me'. He's only looking for my friendship."

"Oh, honey. He was young and didn't know how to, so he dated someone else to get you off his mind."

I burst out laughing. It wasn't a happy laugh more of a fake laugh, "you have got to be joking with me! So you are saying that he loved me so much that he went to date some other girl, who he ended up giving my childhood nickname too and dating her though out high school regardless of my feelings?"

My parents looked at each other.

Mom walked in front of me, "you should have seen his face when we begged him not to tell you. He was waging war within himself, he didn't know whether to tell you or not!"

"It doesn't even matter anymore," I fold my arms and look at his body laying on the bed, "he didn't even fight for our friendship!"

"How did you expect him to?" My dad snapped. I snap my eyes to him so see him staring at me. "speaking from a man's point of view, I don't understand how he could have when he just announced that he had a girlfriend! The boy was lost, when he came through the door with Carrie behind him. He lost that spark he had when you were around!" I stared at my dad, he has never said this much in 10 minutes before. "You need to forgive the boy and put him out of his misery."

"A man's point of view?" I snicker. I maybe acting unreasonable and mean to them but I need to start protecting myself. "a man's point of view! A man would never abandon his daughter. A man would never treat his daughter the way you treated me. A man would have manned up and spoke the truth because he is the head of the house. So you have no right to speak to me about a man's point of view! And forgive him? Did he rip your heart out when he called some random girl your nickname? Did he forget who you were the second he made it official with her? oh wait, let me guess, did he also keep a crucial part of your childhood a secret from you for years?"

Colton's heart monitor started beeping really fast now, which alerted his nurse and doctor.

"What is going on in here?" his doctor asked,

"Nothing doc, just a miscommunication with my parents." I say through gritted teeth,

I knew he felt how tense the atmosphere was in this room, "well, whatever is going on, you need to take it outside."

"No worries. I was leaving anyway," I grab my bag and jacket. I pass my parents and the doctor, "they are staying to keep an eye on him. I won't be coming back."

With that I left the room not looking back.
