"What is your name?" William asks.
"Lydia Williams," I say. There is a contraption wrapping around my wrist and leading back to the machine. The lie detector beeps.
"Your full name, Lydia," William says, glaring.
"Lydia Rose Williams," I say, sighing.
"What is your favorite color?"
"Green,"
"Who is your best friend?"
"Ann-Marie Tiara Diaz,"
He continues asking me trivial questions for about half an hour, until finally, he asks, "Are you aware of what your parents were researching?"
I take a deep breath and say, "No,"
The machine beeps and I squirm in my seat as William glares holes into my head.
"I'm going to ask you again, are you aware of what your parents were researching?"
"Yes," I reply shakily.
"What was it?"
"A mind control serum," I whisper.
"Talk louder. Did they keep extra copies of their research hidden away somewhere?"
"No," I said loudly, staring him in the eyes.
"Is there any place you went with your family regularly, a city or a landmark?"
Hmm city or landmark? "Nope,"
"Is there a specific phrase your parents ever told you repeatedly?"
"Yes. They said I can do anything and no one can stand in my way," I spit.
"How attracted are you to me?" he asks nonchalantly.
"Wha- You can't ask that!" I say, flustered.
"I just did, sweetheart. Answer me,"
"You're okay-looking I suppose. Nothing special," I shrug. The machine beeps. Shit.
"Now tell me the truth, Lydia" he says, amusement in his eyes.
"You're very attractive," I admit. "Not the best I've seen, but pretty good,"
Beep. You've got to be kidding me. What more did the machine want?
"Lydia.." he says, teasing.
"I'm insanely attracted to you and it's scary because I've never been this attracted to someone before. You make me all flustered and make me lose my inhibition," I say quickly.
William smiles and reaches over. I flinch and I can see hurt flicker in his eyes. He takes off the lie detector and walks out the room.
What the hell did I just say? I'm in such a mess, and it's all my fault. We started to make out, but I pushed him away. I'm terrified of him, and my attraction towards him.
Jones walks in and escorts me to my room.
"Where is William?" I ask.
"He is in his room, right across from yours," he replies, shutting the door.
Should I go in and talk to him? What do I even say? One thing for sure, I can't just sit around and wait for him to call on me.
I walk across the hall and knock on his door. He doesn't answer, so I turn the knob. It's unlocked.
