"Put this in your ear. I'll have one as well, and we'll be able to communicate," William says, handing an earbud to Drew and I. "Stay by my side at all times, and listen to me. If I say run, don't act like a hero. I know how to take care of myself better than you do, so for God's sake, run,"
"How are you so sure my parents' reasearch will be hidden at Oak Woods?" Drew questions, skeptical.
"I'm not," was the blunt response. "But there's little choice here. We found a lead, and I'm following up on it. There will be men scouring the place, but if you do lose yourself, tap thrice on your earbud. I'll let everyone know that you see someone, and they will in turn clap three times. If the person in front of you does not clap, he is not our man. If I don't get a response from one of my men within twenty seconds, I'll call the search off to find you,"
"It's a camping ground, not a war zone," I mutter, rolling my eyes.
"I've been doing this for very long, and honey, you'd be surprised," he warns. In a louder voice, he says, "Alright, everyone, move out!"
I have a flashlight in my hand and a gun tucked into the inside of my maroon leather jacket. The damp soil compresses under our weight as Drew, William, and I go into the forest. Our plan is simply to search around the campsite for any abnormalities that might lead us to our parents' research.
We walk around for a while, not saying anything. Suddenly, in the distance, I hear a large explosion.
"Guys, get down," William hisses, motioning for us to sit beside him. He puts a hand to his ear and speaks into the bud, "What the hell was that?"
"-grenade and it blew up in front of me. Injured but breathing, watch out for more," my earbud tunes into the frequency the rest of the team was using.
"Damn," William mutter.
"The cave," I say, standing up. "If it's anywhere, it would be there,"
"Lydia, stay down or I swear to God-"
"I don't believe in God!" I yell back, taking off in the direction of the cave.
So.. The story is actually coming to an end (hehe a lil spoiler there). It's been real writing this, thank you guys so much for reading thus far. Especially @gossipgirl :) <3
