"So, are you ever going to tell me why you looked so mad earlier?" I continued to tease Y/N after the small silence between us. She remained quiet but I wasn't exactly expecting anything else from the younger girl. She wasn't going to give me the satisfaction of an answer especially if it was complete apparent that I was teasing her. Still, I remained by her side as she crutched along the sidewalk of the small street. I wasn't sure she was really going anywhere anymore but I didn't understand why she had this box in her hands as she was trying to walk with a pair of crutches in addition to her wounded ankle. Eventually I looked over at the smaller girl to see her shake her head, her lips pressed in a thin line. God did I just want to kiss those same lips; what I would do for that chance.
"What would be the fun in that?" Y/N finally responded dryly after a couple more seconds of silence. I couldn't help but release a small chuckle at her dry response because I knew that was her indirect way of a joke. There wasn't much emotion on the younger girl's face, but it almost like she was trying to prevent an almost smug smile from taking over her lips. She looked very satisfied with herself and I was glad that at least she wasn't looking nervous or checking her surroundings for anything. I really didn't like that nervous look on her even though we were in such a bad predicament these days. Eventually we came up to a huge tree towards the edge of the small town which was still protected by the fence surrounding everything. Y/N sighed as she came to a stop at the base of the tree. I knew she was going to want to sit down so before she could, I scooped her in my arms to set her down.
The crutches fell to the ground but I managed to keep hold of the smaller girl and set her down easily before sitting next to her. Y/N pulled the crutches on the other side of her body with a small huff but I only laughed in response. "You know, you're really cute when you try to stay mad at me." I spoke after sitting for a couple of minutes. It was silent between us before that but it remained calm, not awkward. I had set the small box on the other side of myself so the only thing separating Y/N and I was the small patch of grass that we had been sitting on. I had been much bolder in telling Y/N like it is but I still don't think she was very used to hearing it from me. When we had first met, I was so dumbfounded by her that I hadn't been able to voice my opinions so well. Plus, now I knew that she had a dry sense of humor and she was all bark and no bite. Don't get me wrong, she could fuck someone up but I wasn't personally worried about it.
"That's funny, because I don't have to try very hard." Y/N mumbled between us while avoiding my eyes. Again, I knew it was just to mess with me but that was her way of showing it. "I'm sure you don't have to try very hard either. You just naturally annoy me." I couldn't help but let out a loud laugh at her words. I took no hard feelings from her anymore and I knew it would only piss her off even more to laugh at her attempt to insult me. What actually surprised me though, was when I looked over to see the Y/E/C eyed girl trying to prevent a smile of her own. She was still avoiding my eyes but I couldn't stop myself from admiring the sight of the closest thing I had seen to a smile coming from her. I leaned back against the base of the tree as I calmed down from my small laughing fit, ending it with a deep breath that came out almost like a happy sigh. Y/N was now looking at me with a raised eyebrow but her smile was still muted and barely there. The sight was still insanely beautiful to me.
"That's because it's one of my specialties." I winked causing Y/N to roll her eyes. "You know your eyes are going to get stuck like that one day if you keeping doing that. I don't think that'd be very cute." Y/N let out a scoff as I began to laugh at my own joke. I knew she wanted to roll her eyes again but she was aware that I was also watching her closely. Y/N knew I'd comment on it again and I'm sure she was damn near close to done with my shit but that's what made it ten times more amusing than before. It was just too easy to mess with her and it wasn't like she could really get away from that easily, that much I had already told her since we practically first met. "But what is very cute right now, is when you try to hide your smile like I don't see it." I made the bold choice to point it out and I didn't know yet if I was going to regret that decision or not. I didn't know I was holding my breath until now but what I saw next absolutely took it away.
