Prologue ☁︎

I stood still as I reached out my arms and let the rain hit my arms making small splashes on my smooth skin. I smiled and closed my eyes as I smelled the cool October rain against the pavement. My eyes opened and swept to the trees that rustled with the wind and enjoyed the sweet taste of the rain. I lower my arms and gasp at the sudden lightening that struck the sky. Earths' pure electricity. Sighing I run inside and escape from the rain.

"How many times do I have to tell you to stay out of the rain? It is October and it's freezing. I'm not going to feel bad when you get a cold," my housekeeper, Ana teased as I run up to my room and change into dry clothes. I curl up with a blanket a book and sit by the window watching the rain. The sound of the rain is soothing as it beats against my window and I slowly drift off to sleep enjoying the day for what it is.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up to my alarm clock that buzzes beside me. As I turn it off I get out of bed and decide to shower and get ready. After I finish in the shower, I step out and brush out my hair throwing on my acid washed jeans and a loose white crop top and my black leather jacket. I examine myself in the mirror and frown when I see a pimple on my forehead. Generally I have very smooth and clear skin but today was clearly not my day. I cough a little and then sneeze and realize Ana was right. The cold October rain had given me a cold. I outlined my brown eyes with a little but of black eyeliner and applied my mascara. I slightly cover the blemish and groan as I study my face. I was a boring girl. No, boring was the wrong word; I was simple. My brown hair reached below my shoulder blades and the majority of my hair was straight but some of it was wavy. I had dark brown eyes that generally stay hidden underneath side swept bangs. My jaw was sharp and I didn't have chubby cheeks like most of my friends. Speaking of friends, my best friend Loren was going to be here soon to drive me to school.
I run down stairs and pull on my combat boots and grab my black leather jacket that hung by the door.
"Bye mom or Dad," I say and then mumble," if you're even here." I strut outside and get hit by a blast of cold wind. I stumble to her car and pull open the dark blue door to her car. I instantly sigh in relief by the warm that protects is from the blistering cold.
"Ready for today?" Loren asked me excitedly.
"Ready as I'll ever be. I kind of have a cold," I mumble and then sniffle a little bit to prove my point.
She pouts and gives me a sympathetic look and starts to drive. When we reach the front doors of the school she lets me out and goes to park her car. I go into the building and relax when I feel the heating against my skin. Loren enters through the doors about a minute later and we walk to our lockers together.
"So I heard that John is moving because he got a girl prego," Loren says as she grabs her textbook for Spanish. I'm not really interested in drama but Loren is and I just nod and go along with it. She likes to ramble so I generally don't have to add any input and it's safe for me to tune her out. I wave goodbye as I enter my English class and take my usual seat near the window. I rub my nose and sniffle and then sneeze and cough. Everybody around me disperses because of the germs that I produced. I feel a light tap on my shoulder and a tall stranger hands me a tissue.
"Thank you," I say as I gratefully take the tissue and blow my nose. I stare at his retreating back and smile at the stranger even though he's turned around. His jaw was square and his deep hazel eyes burned into my boring ones. Brown and almost auburn hair settled messily on his head and onto his forehead. He was tan and seemed simple except something about him stuck out to me. He wore a black leather jacket just like me and I smiled at the similarity. I could start a conversation later with that. I sigh and blow my nose again as I begin to read over chapter one like Mr. Ortega instructed us to. Before I finished reading a slipped a glance behind me at his in his chair and saw that he was already looking at me deeply and I shivered at the intensity of his stare.
I'm gonna have trouble talking to him about the leather jacket.
