She never asked for this.
She didn't ask for the flashbacks. She didn't ask for the nightmares. She didn't ask for the constant worry of if it would happen again. She didn't ask for the violent fits. Most of all, she didn't ask for the catatonic state she would end up in afterwards.
"Don't worry. It will all be over soon" would rattle through her brain as she lie in bed.
Nothing hurt more than knowing he became exactly like the men he promised he would never become. The promise he intended to keep is not the one he ended up keeping. Despite the circumstances, that was the only thing that fully broke her heart.
She had always believed in keeping a promise. Sure, it was a childish concept, but it always kept her afloat during harsh times. It gave her a sense of hope during the rough storms that plagued her day-to-day life; no matter what, it always seemed like it was SOMETHING trying to destroy her faith in humanity. Everyone knew her childhood wasn't an easy one to handle. From her grandmother's death to now FIVE men having defiled her as a woman, all she wanted was someone to keep their promise.
Maybe one day, she would grow to be stronger, but today is not her day.
