The war has passed.
The celebration is over.
The grieving has just begun.

Percy is locked in a state of depression. He's outcast by everyone because they blame him for not being able to save the ones who died. The Gods don't acknowledge him or any of the demigods anymore, as there is no upcoming prophesied war. His mom and Paul are too absorbed with taking care of his half-sister, Estelle to realize what's going on.

Skip to the next summer where Percy has completely isolated himself from everyone. He just arrived back to Camp Halfblood, and on the first night, he gets an Iris Message from someone. When he answers it, no one is on the other side. Right as Percy is about to cut the connection, someone speaks up. If he were to try hard enough, Percy would be able to tell who the male voice belonged to.

"You can call me Lester," the voice said when asked who it was.

This doesn't have anything to do with Trials of Apollo.
