chapter 34

"Courtney, we really need to talk," I stood outside of her stall, my hands crossed.

She didn't respond, but I heard the lock click on her side and the door slowly swung open. She stood there, her eyes red and puffy. "Yeah," she muttered.

"What's been going on with you and Shayne?" I wanted to comfort my best friend, but first I needed some answers.

She looked at her feet, struggling to come up with an answer.

"We... well I kissed him," she muttered, not making eye contact with me.

"Why would you do that to me, Court?" I didn't budge from my spot as more tears started to roll down her cheeks.

"I... I really like him, Liv. I've tried everything - I can't get over him," she hiccupped as she wiped her eyes. I looked at her, conflicted, and then moved forward to hug her. She almost fell backward, surprised by my hug, but then she slowly hugged me back. "Why aren't you more mad?" She asked me, her chin resting on my shoulder.

"Because I know you won't do it again," I pulled away and squeezed her shoulder. "I know you, Court, and I know you weren't trying to hurt me," I managed a small smile.

"I wasn't, I really really wasn't, Liv," she smiled a grateful, watery smile back at me. "I'm happy for you and Shayne, I truly am. And I'm so sorry," she frowned.

"I am, too, Court. I am too," 

And we stood in the stall, hugging.
