Shayne:
As Olivia and I walked out of the hotel room together I couldn't help but imagine that we were a couple. I imagined that she was my girlfriend and I was her boyfriend and we were on a romantic vacation in Hawaii together.
But we're not. We're just friends. No, we're just coworkers. On a business trip. Yeah. Just strictly for business. A professional trip. I shook my head and then realized we hadn't said anything to each other since about five minutes ago.
"Do you want to get something to eat?" I asked her.
"Sure, those pretzels and peanuts on the airplane did nothing to fill me up," she laughed.
We walked around the resort until we found a small bistro next to the beach. We took our seats outside, the smell of salmon and sea breeze drifting through the air.
"What can I get for you two today?" A waitress smiled at us with a small notepad.
"I'll get the salmon special," Olivia smiled back at her, handing her the menu.
"I'll get the same thing," I hand over the menu as well.
"Alright! And may I just say I think you two are just the cutest couple!" And with that she walked away, leaving us to comprehend what she just said. I watched as Olivia's face turned pink and I felt mine becoming hot as well.
I scratched the back of my ear. "Um, well then." I laughed awkwardly.
We were pretty much silent until the food came. And then we started to talk about how amazing the food was, which led to past experiences at restaurants, which led to past dates, which led to talking about Olivia's ex-boyfriends. We had finished our food about half an hour ago but we were still sitting there, just talking.
"Yeah, so anyways, he ditched me that day, lied about it, and then when I found him on a date with another girl on my way home, he denied it and tried to distract me from it by throwing a drink at me. Like who does that?" She was laughing so much she was almost crying.
"What a douche," I breathed because I was laughing so hard. "You deserve so much better," I said and it suddenly became quiet. Our smiles turned serious and uncomfortable. We made eye contact for a little too long and after about ten seconds she broke eye contact and cleared her throat. I sighed and checked my watch.
"Oh my god it's already 7 we need to get going!" I hadn't realized how long we had been talking for. I asked for the check and despite Olivia trying to pay, I paid for our food.
We quickly walked to the meeting place at the resort to find the rest of the squad and Smosh games members.
"I see them over there!" Olivia gestured to our group sitting under some palm trees in the center of the resort.
"Okay, great, I think we're late so let's hurry," we started to speed walk and she tripped over a rock in the middle of the pathway. Without thinking I grabbed her arm and steadied her before she fell.
"U- um, thanks," she stuttered.
"No problem," I muttered, embarrassed. As I looked up I noticed the sky. "Whoa, look at that sunset." I pointed upwards. The sun was fading into brilliant pinks, purples, and oranges, making the sky look like an explosion of colors.
"Wow..." Olivia looked out at the sunset. Then I felt her gaze turn to me. She looked at me for a good ten seconds, and I pretended not to notice as to not make things awkward. Little did she know that the thing I wanted to do most at that moment was look back at her and kiss her.
As she looked at me, it looked like she was thinking about something. Contemplating maybe.
"M-Maybe we should get to that meeting now," I turned to her, losing my speaking abilities.
And without a word, she grabbed my face and quickly kissed my cheek, right at the corner of my lips. I felt my face immediately heat up and my stomach twist and turn inside me. Then, before I could even react, she walked away quickly to go meet the others without turning back.
What just happened?
