Chapter 13

"Rise and shine!" Lucas had chirped when it was 8:00. I lay up on the bed and began to rub my eyes to get used to the sun shining through a window on top of my bed head.

Just as I finished rubbing my eyes, Lucas threw a glass of water at my face, and I waved my arms in the reaction to protect myself. Out from my hand came out an ice shard flying towards Lucas.

Lucas reacted quickly enough and destroyed it before the ice shard landed on him. I began to panic and I begin to apologize, "I'm sorry Lucas!!" Lucas Had smiled and laughed at me and said, "Its okay Seth."

I began to wonder where this ice shard came out from my hand out of nowhere. Just as I began to ponder about that Ms. Grant walked in the room and said, " I see that you boys are not hurt. I'm glad to know that."

"Seth you have to start your training today, I will wait for you in my office. Meet me as soon as you are comfortable walking around." Ms. Grant said.

I nodded to her to confirm of what she told me, and she began to walk out the door.

Lucas walked to me and helped me get off my bed. I set my first foot on the floor, struggling to let it support my weight. Had that "gift" the stranger gave me really impacted me?

Lucas noticed I had struggled to maintain myself and assumed I was still weak from what the man did to me.

We began to walk to the field outside of the school, and Ms. Grant was there, waiting for us. I had finally began to regain my strength to walk on my own.

"Feeling better Seth?" Ms. Grant asked. I looked at her and smiled, "Yes, I began to make progress on recovery."

"Okay, good, you're not strong enough to do physical attacks, but we can work on your energy concentration." Ms. Grant walked towards me and ordered for a dummy to appear.

"Observe." Ms. Grant said as she held out her hand. There was a clear aura glowing around her slowly, and it began to be more noticeable, like a shield that covers only her body.

A ball of light began to form on her hand and it grew larger in size as she kept focusing on the energy to form the ball.

I observed her and she gave me a glance before she aimed it to the dummy.

She shot the ball, and it hits the dummy, and a small series of explosions followed the impact on the dummy, leaving no remains of the dummy.

"That there was an energy shot. Only called 'energy' because it's a holy element, a clean element." Ms. Grant had informed me.

"There are more than one element: holy, dark, water, ice, thunder, fire, earth, and so much more. Not every Mage has one element, but it's usually the common now to help keep the safety of other student mages. I can use 5 elements, holy being one of them." Ms. Grant said as Lucas walked forward and stood where the dummy stood.

"In order to know what element you have, you need to focus on your energy and to summon it forth to it's use. That's where the aura becomes noticeable and surrounds you. Mind you, not everyone's aura is the same, they also change to the color of the element they want to use. Once your aura is present, you can begin using attacks of that certain element. Since you don't know much, you only have one element, if you can prove that you're capable of having another element, then you will have to face one of the element golems that can be summoned by another Mage who has the element you want. If you can beat the golem, then you can obtain the element from the golem, making the element yours to use. Now, focus on your energy and try to hit Lucas." Ms. Grant stepped aside to observe.

I stared to Lucas and he gave me a smile of assurance, "Don't worry Seth, I'll be fine. Don't focus on hurting me, focus on yourself."

I nodded to Lucas and began to focus on the energy stored within me.

My back began to burn and I felt pain, then I felt swelling on my back. My aura was in the color of blue, a sky blue, and I held out my arm.

A blue ice ball quickly formed in my hand and I felt it growing in power. Ms. Grant was observing me and was alerted, and nodded to Lucas to be ready.

I had my focus on Lucas and I threw the ice ball towards Lucas, and he blocked the ball with his arms and a great light flashed. A second later I see Lucas frozen to ice.

I began to panic and ran towards Lucas and Ms. Grant waved her hand and pulled me back before I could even touch him.

Ms. Grant walked towards Lucas and tried to figure out what to do. I walked back to him and stood behind her, observing her.

"Let's see if my touch can thaw him out. I usually have the ability to reverse the magic casted on people." Ms. Grant touched Lucas on his chest and nothing happened.

"Hmmm.., strange. Let me try casting a few spells and see if it can reverse it." I stood back as Ms. Grant began to cast random healing spells on Lucas. Not a single spell had an effect.

"Hold on Seth. Let me see a healing expert and see if they can help. I'll be back." Ms. Grant was gone the next minute and I walked to Lucas.

I was observing him and there was no sign of the ice melting, no ice melting, no smoke, nothing. It's all ice. I began to feel sad and sympathetic for what I have done.

I knew that going on with the training was a mistake, especially knowing that the "mark" had something to do with it. Why have this feeling though? I've never felt so sympathetic before, but there was something else to it. I didn't know what it was.

I hugged Lucas, despite knowing that he was frozen. Strangely, I didn't feel any sudden coldness from touching the ice. I held him right and I closed my eyes, hoping that he could come back.

A few minutes passed by and I feel arms wrap around me, and I looked up to see that Lucas was thawed out! I was excited and I hugged him back tightly, and I felt my face turn red.

I looked at Lucas and see that he is completely thawed out. "I'm sorry Lucas... I didn't mean to do that..." I told him. Lucas held my chin and lifted my face up and smiled, "It's fine. I'm back now, that's what matters."

We stared at each other for a moment and Ms. Grant walked in, interrupting us from our moment.

"Oh! You're back to normal! How did you do it Seth?" I stared at her puzzled and replied, "Uh... I don't know, I'm guessing it was my sense of touch. I hugged him and it thawed him out." Ms. Grant was impressed and nodded.

"Your power is impressive, and at it's peak of strength. You had the concentration to freeze him, and you're able to reverse the spell by yourself. Most new-comers aren't able to do this. Your power is strong, but why? You haven't had much practice on it, unless you have a Mark on you."

I turned my back to Ms. Grant and she walked towards me as I lifted the back of my shirt up.

"Oh my....." Ms. Grant said in shock.

"I have to go to the Library and research this. I'll talk to Fran about this and I'll pass on what I find out to you." Ms. Grant began to send us out the door.

"Fran...?" I asked in confusion.

"Yes. Fran. I know her, and I know that she's your fairy. She used to be my fairy before she returned to the Fairy Realm. But for now, go home Seth. Lucas, keep a careful eye out on him." Ms. Grant said cautiously as she walked us out to the parking lot.

"Be careful you two..." Ms. Grant said, and she was gone. Lucas and I began to walk home, but at a quicker pace this time.

I began to wonder, what is this "Mark" and what will it do to me..? The question remains in my mind he entire walk home....
