Ash pov

"So uh, Ash is it?" Navia's mom asked. I nodded. "You into any after school activities?" She asked. I shook my head.

"I kinda decided not to do any at this school. Plus, it's my last year and-"

"Don't you think you should make your last year count?" Navia's dad asked. I nodded.

"I'm good at the saxophone. I'll probably join the band for concert season." I said to him. He nodded. I heard giggling and looked over at the little boy that they introduced me to as Trevor. Navia had whispered something in his ear and when she saw me staring she moved away.

"Nerd." He called out giggling.

"Trevor..." His dad warned. Trevor went back to picking at his food before eating.

"I think it's good that you can play. You know any-

"Superstitious, dirty Diana, and other stuff I can't think of right now." I laughed. Navia snickered and stood up from the table to throw her empty plastic plate away. Before walking away.

"Come sit back down young lady." Her mom said to her. She dragged her body back and plopped in her seat mumbling something under her breath.

"The food was delicious Ms. Smith. Um, I should call my mom to come get me now." I said to her. Seeing that Navia didn't need nor want my company.

"No, you're fine sweetie. Maybe Navia can chill with you outside." She suggested I shook my head.

"I really want to get to the hospital in time to see Niq if I'm being honest." I said to her. She nodded and stood up taking my plate and her own before dumping them in the trash.

"Well, it was nice talking with you. I hope things get better for your girlfriend." Ms. Smith said to me as she led me to the door. Before she could reach to unlock it, a knock came to the door. "Who is it?" She asked. No answer.

She huffed in irritation and pushed the door open. Some tall guy smiled back and walked passed me like I wasn't standing there to hug her.

"Courtney!" Navia shrieked running to him. The guy chuckled and grabbed her into a tight hug.

"Don't be calling me that Avi. You know my name." He said pulling away from her while she stayed hanging on. He turned my way and nodded. "Wassup?" He said to me before turning back to Navia.

"Isn't that-"

"Let's go to my room and talk." She said taking his hand into hers and walking off to the back. If it wasn't what it looked like, why did it feel that way to me now?

"That's the infamous Cortavious you heard her blabbing about bef-"

"Yeah, I see. He goes to my school." I said to her. She nodded.

"Yea, I heard about your run in with the two. You really thought they dated?" She asked me. I nodded.

"They just look-"

"Good together?" She asked me. That wasn't the first word that came to mind, but it was close to it.

"Yeah, I guess."

"Well, they grew up together. Everything she won't tell me, I'm pretty sure he knows." She said to me. I chuckled and pulled out my phone to text my mom. Then looked up the moment that they came back out of the room again. Cortavious eyed me and shook his head this time. Apparently I was talked about.

"I'm on my way out. I'll tell Niq you said to get well." I was saying it to Ms. Smith, but I was glaring at Navia. She rolled her eyes at me and plopped down on the couch next to Cortavious.
