I opened my eyes and shut them quickly the moment bright lights touched my eyes. I moved around slightly and could hear the sound of whatever I was laying on make crinkling noises like I was laying on a bed of paper. I felt around, but everything felt so cold.
I made another attempt at opening my eyes, squinting slightly before completely opening my eyes as they adjusted. I looked around at the plain grey and blue padded walls then down at the makeshift bed I was on that seemed to be a part of the wall. It felt like a punching bag, but looked way more beat up and had mattress stuffing coming from the corner of it.
I looked around more and found a door with a small cracked up window that I couldn't see out of. Where the hell was I? I don't even remember being brought here.
I looked down at my clothes confused. They weren't even my clothes. They looked to be scrubs made out of that weird bib material that dentist put around your neck to keep you from getting anything on your clothes.
I checked inside of the scrub pants and sighed relieved. At least they kept my underwear and bra on me. I thought as someone came and knocked on the door. I didn't say anything, but I waited in anticipation as they unlocked the door with a slight buzz.
A tall black woman with dreads came in with a clipboard a brown paper bag and a clear weekday rectangular medicine box on top of that clipboard.
"My names nurse Dee." She said to me as she held out her hand and smiled at me. She had the deepest set of dimples and I couldn't help, but to smile back and shake her hand.
"I'm Navia. Uh.. what is this?" I asked her as I gestures towards the rest of the room. She looked around and then back at her clipboard. I noticed that she'd left the door open and wanted to make a run for it.
"If you try to run, just know that you're not going to be able to and you'll be hit with a shot that will sedate you if and when you fight back." She said to me ignoring my question as she wrote on her clipboard. She couldn't have read my thoughts. So that must meant she dealt with this a lot, but she didn't look no older than 25.
"A shot?" I asked her confused. She looked up at me and nodded as she kneeled down pulling off a blood pressure wrap from around her tattooed arm.
"I'm only here until the morning. So I'll let you know now that everyone else isn't going to be so nice and warn you about things like that. Relax." She said to me as she placed the watch against my chest and began looking at my ears and nose.
"I-I don't get it. Where am I?" I asked her. The machine beep twice and she pulled it off of me after writing down the numbers.
"Millwood. No one told you when you got in?" She asked me curiously. I shook my head that was now starting to hurt horribly. "Well, according to your paperwork, this is your second chance at life. Do you not remember trying to-" before she could finish her sentence, I felt like I'd been dunked in a ice cold tub and pulled back out and shivered. "Kill yourself..." she finished as she looked at me
Concerned before checking my eyes and mouth.I looked up at her and froze. "I What?" I asked her confused. She pulled my hand up to my face slowly and showed me the bandage on it. My skin grew goosebumps and suddenly it all came to me.
Me in the cop car as calm as day while they drove fast. I remember pulling out the blade I had tucked in my pocket they must've hadn't checked. That was all I remembered. I couldn't recall anything after that.
