Sweet Creature | The choice

You were never mine

To lose,

But I lost you.

All the same.

- Unknown

Luke

I was complete. The moment I felt her soft fragile body fly into my arms. The moment I smelled her strawberry mango shampoo, that took me back to the days where we'd spend all evening listening to our favorites songs in the middle on the moonlit park, talking about our fears, and sharing things with each other that we wouldn't dare share with anybody else. The days where she belonged to me, and I belonged to her. The days of peace. Oh how I missed her so damn much. I held on to her tight - afraid to lose this moment, afraid that it would be over too soon.

"God I missed you" I whispered against her ear, still holding onto her, and her holding onto me.

I opened my eyes, to see a pair of blue eyes glaring back at me. It wasn't just a glare thought, pure jealously and anger filled the strangers eyes, but I didn't care. Serenity was mines first, this no body would just have to stare. I wasn't going to let her go, not until she asked me too.

"What the heck are you doing here?" Serenity questioned, joy dancing in her tone as she took my presence all in. Still shocked that I was her.

I stretched out my arm, wrapping it around her waist and pulling her back to me.

"I promised I'd be back for you didn't I?"

I watch as her cheeks blush scarlet. My favorite shade of red. Oh how I missed that blush. The moment was ruined by the sudden clearing of the throat from the boy that stood idly by.

"I'm so sorry," Serenity pleads. Stepping away from me she steps closer to the boy, pulling him up towards where we stood before introducing him. "Kai this is Luke; My best friend in the whole wide world, Luke this is Kai my boyfriend"

I throw my hand up for Kai to shake, but instead he just gives me the death stare. Scanning me with eyes of disgust.

So much for being the bigger man, I thought.

"Well, this calls for a celebration dinner. I have no food in the fridge so I'd have to run to the market" Mrs. Hale intrudes, breaking the awkward silence between us.

"Kai are you allergic to anything in particular? Mrs. Hale questions

"No Ma'am I'm not" He speaks politely.

The way his demeanor changed when he address Mrs. Hale clearly shows how threaten he is over me, and he should be.

"I have a great idea! how about Kai comes with us to the market, and it'll give us a chance to get to know him a little more, and Luke and Serenity can stay and set up for dinner and reconnect since it's been forever since they've seen each other" Mrs. Hale offers.

I smirk at the thought, being the first one to agree to the suggestion.

"That's cool with me," Serenity agrees, "Kai?"

I watch as his fist balls, but quickly unball. He looks at Serenity without saying a word. Placing a kiss on her lips before glaring back at me, and then back at her.

"I'll be back soon" He says.

He shoots me one last death glare, before walking away. Following  our moms out the house, and then we were alone. Just me and her. Again at last.

She turns to me, an apologetic smile on her innocent face.

"He's great, I swear" She says quickly before moving towards the kitchen.

I walk over towards her, and begin helping her unload the dishes for tonights dinner.

"He seems nothing like you, I mean he basically looked like he wanted to beat my face in just because I hugged you."

She shrugged.

"That's Kai"

"Are you happy with him?" I couldn't help but ask.

"Of course I'm happy with him"

"Happier with him, then you were with me?"

"You know I can't answer that" Serenity says, shaking her head at the thought of having to choose.

"Why?" I ask, frustrated.

"Because it isn't the same" She admits.

This bothered me. After everything we've built in the last three years, only for her to leave and then meet somebody who is completely wrong for her. It wasn't a hard choice to make. She should be sure, just like how I am sure about her. Frustrated I grab her waist, pulled her close to me and pressed my lips against hers. I didn't care if she had a boyfriend, or whatever she said before. This was all I've been wanting the moment she left me. To feel her lips against mine, to have her in my arms again. No way she could just forget about me - not that quickly, not that easily.

"Luk-"

"Was that the same?" I question, pressing my forehead against hers. "Was it?"

"Luke......" She begins. I watch as her brown eyes flicker to mine.

"Just tell me."

"I love him," She admits " I've never felt the way I've felt with anybody else the way I feel for Kai. Not for you, not for anybody. It's him. And I'm sorry, but I can't choose because theres no other choice for me. So please, just be my friend." She places her hand onto mine. Holding on tightly.

"I hate him"

"Don't say that"

"No I do - Three years Serenity. Three years I took the time to learn you: You're favorite color, your hopes and dreams, grieving after your sister, being there for you. We built something special - I loved you" I couldn't believe I was admitting this. I couldn't believe I was pouring out my heart to a girl who clearly didn't want me. I was a fool. A fool to come all this way for nothing. It was clear that she found someone else, someone that wasn't me and it hurt. It hurt to see her with someone else. What did he have that I didn't anyways.

"I'm sorry" She whispers, not looking at me.

"Yeah, me too."
