an explanation

"Scorpius, why were you crying?" James asked, Scorpius in his arms.

"I can't... tell you." he replied, his eyes stinging.

"Yes, you can," James told him, "Trust me, telling someone makes you feel tn times better rather than you keeping everything bottled  up."

Scorpius bit his lip and looked at James. 

"You can't tell a soul. Swear to it?" Scorpius whispered.

"Yeah, of course. As long as you aren't in love with Lily." James laughed.

Scorpius laughed and said, "No, no. James, I'm falling for... I'm falling for Albus."

James was silent. He looked at Scorpius for the longest time.

"Say something, please." Scorpius asked, tear welling in his grey eyes.

"It's okay," James said softly, and took Scorpius into his arms, "It's going to be okay."

Scorpius fell into James's hug and gripped him tightly.

"He's just so perfect... James, I tried to stop myself, I really did. But I can't."

"I know. It's okay."

"Mum, do you know where Scorpius and James have gone?" Albus asked on the couch. 

Lily Luna was making popcorn for everyone. 

"No, darling, I don't. Why don't you go find them?" Ginny called from the kitchen.

Albus walked up the stairs and into his room.

"Albus!" exclaimed James.

Scorpius sniffed and walked straight up to Albus. He hugged him, and not in the tight way. It was loose and warm and real and raw. Albus felt a lot of emotion in that embrace. His best friend, his only friend, the boy he kissed, was crying and he didn't know why. So he just hugged him.

"Scorp, I know you're the sensitive type, but I didn't know you cried this much." Albus giggled.

Scorpius laughed shortly and wiped away his tears. 

"Me neither. It's just... I've never felt more welcome anywhere in my life, and I love your family, and my father isn't doing too well, and you kissed me, and everything is so un-perfect and perfect at the same time." Scorpius confessed.

Albus grinned. 

"Did you just say that you two... Never mind." James got up and walked downstairs.

Scorpius and Albus both went red before bursting into laughter.
