Scott groaned as he rolled over on the couch.
Emma had kicked him out of the bed they shared. And his room to boot.
Yes, he had been a bit careless on the rescue today and he had worried Emma so much that she had thrown up.
But he didn't deserve to be banished to the couch, did he?
Scott sighed. He never slept well when Emma wasn't in his arms, especially now that she was pregnant. His mind would fill with all problems that could go wrong.
He sat up, running his hands through his brown hair. The grey specks had multiple over the three years of the couple being together, not that he minded. They were badges of honor, all hard earned and well deserved.
"Bro, is that you?" Virgil's voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
His bear-like brother stood shirtless in plaid pajama pants. His hair was mussed and his three month-old daughter, Lucy, pillowed on his shoulder.
The scene would have been cute, expect for the bandage that was wrapped around Virgil's chest and the ragged sound of his breath.
Scott had made a bad call and a building had partially collapsed on Virgil. He wasn't too badly hurt, but he would be off rescues for a few weeks until his ribs healed.
Virgil's wife Sam, was none too happy with Scott. The glare he had been given was proof of that as well as the large bruise on his arm.
"It wasn't your fault," Virgil whispered, sitting down on the couch next to his brother.
"What?" Scott said a bit too loudly. Lucy started whimpering and Virgil shifted her into his arms quickly.
"Me getting hurt wasn't your fault," Virgil said yawning loudly. Lucy yawned as well and cuddled deeper into her father's arms.
Scott soon also yawned. The two brothers at in comfortable silence for a while then Scott felt a weight hit his shoulder and looked down.
Virgil's head was pillowed against his oldest brother's shoulder, his daughter nestled in his arms.
"Goodnight, brother," Scott said letting his own eyes fall closed.
