Scott winced at the loud scream that echoed from his and Emma's room.

It took all his will power to launch himself into the room. The Apollo medical team had said that a demigod giving birth was very dangerous and it was better for him to stay out of the way.

"Scott, breath," Percy said as another one of Emma's screams cut through the air.

The son of Posiden sat beside him, well his wife was with Emma.

The two boys rarely saw eye to eye about anything, but for once they weren't arguing.

"How are you so calm?!" Scott half shouted, whipping around to face his brother-in-law.

"I'm not." Percy's voice was quiet.

"What?"

"I'm not calm.  Hades, I'm never calm. I haven't really relaxed since I was twelve."

"But how?"

"I know she'll be okay. Trust me, she can handle anything at this point."

"Really?"

"Let me show you something," Percy said lifting up his shirt.

Scott gasped at the large puckered scar that ran horizontal across his stomach. It curved down at one side.

"Th first time I met Emma, she gave me this. She is almost eight years younger then me, and I met her when I was sixteen."

"What she use?"

"A pair of safety scissors," Percy said pulling his shirt back down.

"She did at age eight with a pair of kid's scissors?!"

"Yep. I told you she can take care of herself. It wasn't until later when I found out that she had been living on the streets since she was five."

"Why?"

"Her mother hated the fact that she was a demigod for one and for another, hated Posiden in general. I thought you knew."

"She never told me," Scott said looking at his hands.

"Let's just say she was a bit wild back then," Percy said chuckling softly. Scott soon joined in.

A newborn's cry stopped the laughter and had the pair jumping to their feet, rushing to the door.

As they ran, they shared a look. One not of rivals or foes, but of brothers.
