Alice had once loved swimming, but now that she only had one leg it scared her.
"Come, babe!" Gordon said splashing her.
She simply shook her head. It was taking all her courage just to sit this close to the pool, let alone getting in the water.
"Alice, why don't you try your new prosthetic leg in the water?" Brains said from the doorway into the kitchen.
Alice bit her lip. She loved having two legs now, even if one was metal and plastic. She could do so many things easier and she could dance again.
"Al, are you scared of the water?" Gordon said, pulling himself out of the pool next to her.
Alice nodded, biting her lip.

Gordon wasn't sure what to do. He remembered that Alice loved swimming before her accident, so why was she scared of the water.
Her leg!
Gordon mentally face palmed. She couldn't swim with only one leg. Even if she did get in the water, she wouldn't be able to stay afloat for long just using her arms.
"Alice, princess, I won't let anything happen to you, okay," Gordon said softly, taking her hand in one of his.
"I'm scared, Gordo. I tried to go swimming after the accident and I almost drowned. Just being near the water scares me," Alice said looking at him with blue eyes.
Gordon would often get lost in those eyes. With her Spanish heritage giving her warm brown skin and thick brown curls, her eyes made her more beautiful in his eyes.
"Do you trust me?"
"Yes."
"Then come here." Gordon led her towards the sallow end of the pool. He helped her into the warm water.
"I'm going to float on my back and I want you to do the same, okay. I won't let go of you the whole time."
As Gordon laid on his back, he pulled his girl closer to him. He was a strong enough swimmer he could easily do his laps with her, but he knew she wasn't ready for that yet.
As the pair floated, Alice glanced at Gordon out of the corner of her eye. He smiled as he kicked his legs gently.
"Thank you," she whispered and closed her eyes, letting herself float.
