Alexis:

I knew there would be trouble for staying away all night.

"Where were you?" Alan asked me with his arms crossed while I had just closed the door behind me.

"As you may have noticed, not here." I replied as I took my shoes off.

"Not in that tone, young lady."

"You don't have anything to say to me. You're not my father."

He was about to strike out when a voice interrupted him.

"Touch her and I'll break your fucking hand."

Rob stood on the landing staring at our stepfather.

"Don't tell me what to do, faggot." He spat contemptuously.

I pushed him. "Don't call him a faggot!"

"Don't touch me, you slut!"

I pushed him again and then went to my brother and took his hand.

"You'll regret putting your hand on him." I said before I took Rob up the stairs with me.

"I hate that fucking asshole so much!" I curse while I let go of his hand and went to my room.

There I threw my backpack on my bed and drove through my hair.

"Everything's okay. I won't let him hit you too." Rob said and hugged me.

I replied to his hug and breathed in his familiar, soothing fragrance.

"Where were you and Chester today, anyway?" He suddenly asked me to change the subject.

I just shrugged my shoulders.

"Neither of us really wanted to go to school." I replied.

"You know mom's gonna be pissed if someone calls and reports you missing?"

Again I shrugged my shoulders.

"Let her be pissed. We'd have a reason to be mad at her too."

He sighed. "You're right."

"Did we miss something today?" I asked now.

Now it was my brother who shrugged his shoulders.

"Not really. Talinda was just asking about Chester. Oh, and some of the other girls tried to take Lin down, and Mike got in." He told me.

"It was clear they would go after the new girl." I said angrily about that fact.

I thought I needed to make something clear.

"Okay. And now please let me copy your homework or I might have more problems tomorrow than an angry mother and some stupid chicks." I said.

My twin brother rolled his eyes, but left my room and came back with his homework in his hands a little later.

"Have fun. I'm gonna go see Brad in a minute. He wants to look for new picks." He said.

"While we're on the subject of Brad.. Is it possible you have a bit of a crush on him?"

Rob looked at me caught.

"That obvious?" He asked, ashamed and with red cheeks.

"Obviously enough for Chester and me." I replied with a slight smile and put one hand on his forearm.

"There's nothing wrong with that. It's okay to have a little crush on your buddy."

"But he's not gay. He talks all the time about a girl named Elisa.." He mumbled slightly.
