"There you are Jevine! You already broke the buddy system rule!" Natalie teased as Jevine walked up to the group.
"I wasn't alone. Racoon cabin with me." Jevine said, sitting at the back of the group where Latham waited.
"Excuse me, but how long will you be staying for?" Asher asked Latham in a sort of rude manner.
"I'm leaving soon. I'm waiting for a call, then I'll leave. But don't you want me here to keep Jevine in check with her mental attacks?" Latham said, rubbing the top of her head.
"Well, that's fine for now. Free time is about to start, so the stations are getting ready. Now, you really do need a buddy for free time. This camp is big and-"
In the distance, a gunshot was heard, and Jevine yelled and grabbed onto Latham as if someone were aiming the gun at her.
"Is there a gun range here by chance?" Latham asked.
"Yes. That's just our gun director checking the guns." Asher reassured. Another gunshot was heard, and Jevine screamed.
"No! Please! Go away! Don't hurt him! Ugh!" Jevine yelled, grabbing her scar as she reimagined the pain of when she got it.
"Leave me alone. Please. Just stop." She said in tears as she slid down to the ground. Latham sighed as the last gunshot was heard. He bent down and picked Jevine back up to a standing position.
"She's going to need something to cover her ears with to block out the sound. You're going to get this everyday if you don't do something about it." Latham said.
"Unless someone here can keep her in check. That'd also work." Latham added.
"I'll do it." Shane said, raising his hand as he saw that no one else would. Jevine looked over at him, almost death glaring him to the soul. Then she calmed down and let go of her brother.
"If he's going to help, you need to tell him." Latham whispered before he let her go. Jevine stiffened and glanced over once again at Shane, who was looking confident, yet nervous about what he just signed up for. Jevine nodded, assuring her brother that she would.
"Alright. Well, I'm off. I won't be a bother anymore. Just got my call for my ride. See you later Jevvy."
Latham waved goodbye as he walked off. Shane walked up to Jevine and stood next to her as Natalie and Asher officially announced Free time.
"So, exactly what do you want to do?" Shane asked Jevine.
"What do you want to do? If nothing, I wanna sit at my cabin." Jevine mumbled.
"I was going to do the same thing, so I'll follow." He said, weary about what and how he spoke.
They got to the Deer cabin, and the first thing Jevine did was take off her jacket and toss it on her bed. Shane then saw her scar on her neck, but she didn't try to hide it.
"I'll explain in a second." Jevine said, seeing his questioned face. She walked over to the sink and splashed water on her face. She gripped the edge of the counter, her body shaking still from the sounds of the gunshots.
"Can the gun range be heard from this far?" She asked, even her voice shaking with fear.
"We shouldn't hear it. Our cabins are too far from it." Shane answered as Jevine sat on her bunk. Shane hopped into the bunk opposite of her and waited for her to speak.
"Shane... Can I trust you?" Jevine said after five , long minutes. Shane looked surprised at the way she said that.
"Yeah, I guess-"
"No 'I guess'. I want a firm yes, or no." Jevine said a little more clearly. Shane considered the tone she was using and answered truthfully.
"Yes. You can trust me."
"Good. Because I'm going to be telling you things about me that I never want anyone to know. Only reason I'm telling you, is because my brother told me to since you volunteered to 'keep me in check'. Stupid Latham." Jevine explained, mumbling the last part to herself.
"Ok. Do these things have to deal with the huge and very deep scar on your neck?"
"Yes... It has everything to do with it. I'm going to tell you why I breakdown like I do."
"Well then, go on." Shane said considerably. Jevine took in a deep breath, fidgeting her hands as she did.
"It... It happened a year ago."

This chapter was more on the short chapter, but that's because the next chapter is going to explain the experience that Jevine had.
