Dinner was same as always. The Wolf and Deer cabin sat together, apart from Jevine, who was only now accompanied by Shane.
"Is there a reason you don't sit with us?" He asked, eating his burger he got.
"People get curious and want to know you. I'm not comfortable with that anymore." Jevine said, barely touching her meal.
"Then answer questions you are comfortable with. You don't have to pour your life out to them if you don't want to."
"I didn't want to tell you, but I promised my brother so he wouldn't worry about me."
"You're a loyal sister. That's what shows when you do that."
"Sure. Well, I'm done so I'm gonna go out for a walk." Jevine said, throwing her untouched food away.
"You can't go alone. Wait for... Me? Where'd she go?"
As Shane was throwing away good food, Jevine disappeared, but he saw all of Raccoon cabin get up together and walk out with smug smirks. He followed them out, and quite deep into the woods just outside of camp. Shane quickly got behind a tree when he noticed them stop.
"So, Jevin-"
"It's Jevine. Did you go to elementary to learn what the 'e' does to the closest vowel?" She corrected Vincent.
"Just shut up. You know, we did some digging, and found some news article talking about your dad. Elias Mitcham, right? Served in the army?" Stu, a taller boy said.
"What about him?" Jevine said, suppressing her emotions.
"He died right? Not in the army, but from murder! By a guy named, Al-"
"SHUT UP!" Jevine yelled as loud as she could.
"Just imagine watching your father, your only friend, fall before you covered in blood! Everyday you have to live with the stupid pain of it being your own, stupi, dumb fault!!" She kept yelling. She began walking up to a tree and ripped off the bark and throwing a piece on each of the boys.
"Another fun fact, I just tossed spruce wood on you, which were also covered Cimex lectularius also known as, bed bugs."
The moment Jevine had said, "bed bugs", they all started freaking out and sweeping their bodies non stop.
"We'll get you one day! Just wait! We've got all summer!" Talon, the buffer one said as he ran off with his friends.
Jevine watched then run until they were out of view before she couldn't hold it in anymore. She fell straight on the ground and began crying as if she were dying.
"How could they?! They know the very thing! I can't! Again! Why does it haunt me?! Leave me alone!" She said constantly. Shane hurried out of hiding and ran up to Jevine.
"Jevine! Calm down! You're not there, you're here. Camp Flarestone. You're safe." He said, not knowing really what else to say, but it seemed to work.
"Wait. You're here. You saw everything, didn't you?" Jevine asked once she calmed.
"Y-yeah. Sorry." He admitted.
"Then you also know that this ground is covered in bed bugs! " Jevine shot up.
"You're the one lying on the ground!"
"I put on a bed bug repellent before I came here! Oh, come on!" Jevine grunted, pulling Shane up and draging him along.
"Wait, you were planning this?! You knew that they would follow you?"
"Of course I knew! They've hated me since yesterday with the bug prank incident."
"You're sneaky."
"Yeah, yeah."
They reached a stream that was very far from the camp grounds.
"Do you know how to get back?" Shane asked as Jevine stopped pulling him and sat him on a rock.
"Yes. I came here last night without anyone knowing. This is where I got the things to make my repellent. And now, I need to make you some bed bug killer for the ones you already have." Jevine said, taking out a smaller bottle than her water bottle, and filling it with the stream water. She picked other plants that Shane couldn't tell apart.
"Do you do this a lot? Make big stuff and play with them like they're your pet?" He asked.
"Yes. I grew up in a very small house in the middle of nowhere until a few years ago. The closest town was a days drive away, so we decided to make everything ourselves. I was in charge of anything dealing with bugs. Now, give me your arm." She explained.
He held out his arm which were already showing bug bites. Jevine began to rub her killer on the red spots.
"Finish the rest of your body, then put more on in two hours. Then you'll be bed bug free." She said, giving him the bottle. She turned around and say next to the stream, waiting for him to finish.
He quickly found as many red spurs as he could and rubbed her ointment on them.
"You done yet? It's been ten minutes!" She complained, playing with water bugs in the stream.
"I'm done. And it hasn't been that long." He pouted, placing the bottle in his pocket.
"Good! Now, dinner still has about an hour left, so I need to see if I can find any leeches." Jevine said.
"You already have them blood suckers! You're still doing this?!" Shane cut in.
"I'm taking the hit for your cabin! Their first target was you, but now it's me. If I can keep it like that, then you guys won't have to deal with them. Just, shut up and let's get back to camp grounds.
After a few minutes of walking, Shane began to itch his back abnormally.
"Did you put my killer on your back?" Jevine asked, crossing her arms as she stopped.
"How am I supposed to reach what I can't see?" He excused. Jevine sighed and took the bottle from Shane.
"Keep walking, and pull the back of your shirt over your head." Jevine sighed.
"What?!"
"Just do it unless you want blood sucking pests crawling in your insides!"
"Fine! Fine!" Shane gave in. He pulled over the back side of his shirt, while Jevine quickly rubbed her ointment on all of the red spots she could find.
Just as they reached the outskirts of the camp, Jevine had finished and gave the bottle back to Shane.
"You mention the whole raccoon cabin incident to no one. Understand?!" Jevine said, pulling Shane back to look her dead in the eyes.
"Understood. Won't tell a soul." He said. Jevine nodded, then continued to walk on.
