The mess hall was filled with morning chatter. Deer and Wolf cabin sat together at a table, while Jevine stayed at the cabin, not planning on attending dinner.
She sat on the ground, leaning against her bed post, wanting to call and talk to her mother, but finding it very difficult. She put her phone down and watched a spider spin it's web instead.
"Tristan said that you were an insect person, but I didn't think you were this good with them."She
Without Jevine knowing, Ryan had made his way into the cabin without alerting her. Jevine sighed at turned back to the spider, ignoring the fact that her scar was uncovered.
"So, why aren't you at breakfast? Aren't you hungry?" He asked, sitting next to her.
"I don't eat breakfast. Makes me feel sick." Jevine said, picking up a stick and catching the spider on it. Ryan watched cautiously as Jevine placed the spider on her finger. The spider hung off with its thread and Jevine began twisting it in her hands, making a web in her hands.
"If you always fear them, then they'll always use that to their advantage.Show firmness and confidence, and they'll cooperate with you." Jevine said, hanging the spider in front of him.
"Have you not noticed that the spider you're holding is a black widow?!" Ryan exclaimed.
"I know."
She placed the spider back on its web and cleaned off her hands.
"You know that we still have to do roll call this morning. You can't skip that. Also, what's the scar on your neck? It looks deadly."
Jevine clenched her fists and took in a deep breath.
"That question will be answered when I feel like it."
She stood up and went back to her bed, picking her phone back up and packing it away for the day.
"What's after roll call?" She asked, looking at the schedule.
"Military meet up, whatever that means. It says mandatory though." He said in a obvious tone.
"I'm skipping. Just try and stop me." Jevine muttered, pulling on her jacket and pulling her hood up. She walked out of the cabin with Ryan following behind her. They met up with the rest of the group at their spot by the lake.
"Ryan and Jevine. The last people in roll call. Now we can get to explaining official rules and today's schedule." Natalie said happily.
"First things first, always have water with you. Second, you cannot go anywhere in the camp without a buddy from here on out. Anyone here who breaks that rule will be punished with extra camp chores." Asher explained.
I will gladly to extra camp chores if it means I can roam the camp alone. Jevine thought.
"Free time activities are only open during free time. Including the craft shack, archery range, gun range, canoeing, swimming, and zip lining." Natalie continued.
"Now for the schedule. After roll call we have military meet up for three hours until lunch. Lunch is for thirty minutes, then we do another roll call. After that is camp meet up for an hour, then free time three and a half hours." Natalie continued .
"After free time, there is dinner for two hours, then roll call. One more camp meet up for an hour, quiet time for an hour back at your cabins. That time is meant for showering, cleaning up, getting ready for bed. Then you have cabin talk for fifteen minutes, leaving that at lights out. We all understand!" Asher finished. Everyone nodded, mainly so they didn't have to be told again
"Perfect! Let's head to the fire pit to start military meet up." Asher clapped, leading the way. Jevine was about to sneak away, when Natalie caught her.
"Really Jevine? Come on. It won't be that bad." She said, pulling her along. Jevine pouted and followed everyone.
They arrived at the fire pit and say as they waited for Natalie and Asher to do something.
"Can't wait to see my great grandfather. He doesn't have much longer before he goes, so hopefully my last memories with him will be happy." Cooper said as he sat next to Jevine who was hanging her head low. She nodded to let him know she heard him.
"If you don't mind me asking, what was your last memory of your father? Was it a good one?" He asked carefully. Jevine stiffined, but didn't answer. Cooper took the sign and say silent as well.
"Alright everyone, come find your family member!" Asher and Natalie said together, revealing some people in military uniform. Both cabins began to run up to their family, including Cooper.
"Look at them all. All cheery and happy to see their loved ones who survived gun shots. Doesn't that make you upset Jevine?"
Jevine jerked back and looked behind her to see who said that, but there was no one there.
"You know who's speaking Jevine. My voice is as clear as if I was there in person."
Jevine bent down and clasped her hands over her ears.
"You're not here. You're not here. You're! Not! Here!" Jevine said, her eyes tightly shut and her body tense. She rocked back and forth, trying to get his voice out of her head.
"I'll always be here Jevine. Just like I promised. I. Will never. leave."
Jevine screamed, alerting everyone to the state she was in. They all rushed to her and tried to shake her out of it!
"Get out of my head! Get out of my head! Leave me alone Alvar!" She screamed, keeping her hands over her ears. Everyone tried pulling her hands away, but failed. They tried calling out her name, and then even the adults came to help, but nothing was working.
A new and strange boy came walking up to the crowded group. His body was built and his hair was untamed, on top of that, you might say that he was on the very good looking side. He walked up calmly and everyone made a path to Jevine as if he was automatically the leader. Both cabins watch and were ready to stop him at any time though.
He knelt down in front of Jevine and pulled her head up to face him.
"Hello Jevine. Long time no see huh?"
Jevine slowly looked up and smiled the brightest smile anyone has ever seen her make so far. She jumped into him and he swung her round and round. Jevine was crying tears of joy, and the cabins were shocked at this outcome.
Tristan, Cooper, and Ryan were all feeling bad vibes from this person.
"Alright, explain who you are?" Shane asked confused. Jevine got down, but kept holding onto him.
"Let me guess, she told you guys that she's an only child?" The boy said with a smirk. Everyone nodded, waiting for a clearer answer.
"Technically I am! You're never around anymore Lathy! You're always with that untrustworthy girlfriend of yours!" Jevine pouted playfully.
"Lathy?! What's going on?" Lola questioned loudly.
"I'm Jevine's older brother. The name's Lathom."
With that, everyone's questions, just multiplied.
