"Ten! Nine! Eight..."

Me and Alex were laid on a blanket in Mortomley Park, gazing up at the sky which was soon about to explode with a wide array of colours and noises.

Once again I was laying on Alex, my head resting on his shoulder, our cheeks against one another. His arms were around my middle, pulling me into him. Warmth radiated off him and countered the cold, harsh December air.

Alex had taken off his coat and it was currently laid on top of me, acting as a makeshift blanket, warming the pair of us up even more.

"...Seven! Six! Five..."

I reflected upon the last twelve months. The year had gone by so quick. Friends had come and gone and I had experienced so many amazing things.

Meeting Alex was, of course, the highlight of my year. He gave me new friends, new chances and, most importantly, became my first ever boyfriend.

He took me down to London for a weekend which was wonderful, He let me meet his parents and, the thing I loved the most, he wrote an amazing song about me.

"...Four! Three! Two..."

I turned my head to the side and cupped Alex's cheek before closing my eyes as our lips connected.

I felt his arms tense around my frame slightly before he relaxed and started kissing me back softly.

I moved away and looked at him past hooded eyes.

"What was that for?" He breathed, not managing to put any volume into his voice.

I giggled quietly as fireworks exploded around us, casting fluorescent tones all across the sky, along with loud whizzes and bangs.

"I just wanted to start the new year kissing you." I smiled and leaned my head against his.

"That's the only good idea you've ever had." Alex laughed quietly - the sound that made my heart flutter.

"Shut up!" I chuckled as I slapped his chest gently before closing the distance between our lips once more.
