"Lizz...", he breathed. "Can I talk to you for a moment?"
I look at him, surprised. "W-Will?"
Lewis abruptly stood, knocking the chair over behind him. "Where the hell have you been?"
Will didn't seem to notice Lewis at all. He walked up to me and grasped my hand. "We need to get you out of here. Now."
"Hold on a second!", Lewis raised his voice. "She can't leave yet! You can't just barge in like that and take her!"
"She needs to go", Will cried desperately. "Otherwise they'll..."
"'They'? Who's 'they'?", Lewis almost snarled. Jesus Christ, he seemed really angry.
"I can't tell you that. Can you leave us alone for a moment? Please?" Will was shaking, seemingly out of anxiety and nervousness.
"I'm not leaving her", Lewis said, clenching his fist. "What she knows, I have to know, too."
I looked back and forth between them. What I thought were best friends were now becoming enemies.
I can't let this get any worse.
"Will, please let him stay. He's been going through a lot already." I squeeze his hand, pleading with my eyes.
He sighs. "Fine. Lewis, please try not to interrupt while I'm speaking to your sister. We can't afford to lose time."
Lewis grunts and picks up his fallen chair, sitting in it with an attitude like a girl who just got their phone taken in class.
Will sighs for a moment, looking unsure. That was when I noticed a scar along his cheek down to his neck. I narrow my eyes, puzzled.
What has he been doing that kept him from communicating with us?
I reach out my hand to touch the scar, but he grabs my hand before I could. "Don't", he whispers. "I'll explain that later."
I nod, obviously confused. This was strange. I've never seen the scar until now.
He's silent for a moment. His eyes glance in one direction, then to the other, as is looking for something. Finally looking into my gaze, he says, "You're in danger, Lizz."
"What?"
Lewis almost flies out of his seat. "What do you mean she's in danger?!"
"Lewis Dawkins! Just shut up and let him talk, you dumbass!"
I wanted to strangle him to make him shut up, but I think my outburst did the trick. He stared at me wide eyed and sat back down, clearly shaken.
"Anyway...", Will continued, looking shocked as well. "I have something to give you. I'll explain everything when you've finished looking at it." He pulled out a folded up piece of paper out of his pants pocket, handing it to me with shaking hands. Scared? Probably.
I opened it. Inside showed a folded up £100 bill and a scribble of the same purple-indigo octagon from my vision. I look up at Will, shocked.
This proves that my vision was in fact a memory. The thought of it actually happening made me shudder and I dropped the items. Lewis grabbed them and inspected each item while Will grabbed and caressed my hand. I was breathing heavily. None of this seemed real, too surreal.
Hesitantly I removed my hand from Will's, not wanting this to go any farther.
"Will", Lewis speaks up, making me jump. "What's with the £100?"
"Our ticket out", was Will's only answer.
"Out? You mean leaving? We can't leave town!", I whine, becoming anxious. "What about everyone else?"
"Everyone else?" Will furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"You know, Ryan and them!" This man better not be messing with me. I'll slap him without hesitation.
He shook his head. "They know what's happening. I called them before I came here." He tried to reach for my hand again but I pulled it away.
I look over to Lewis, who seemed tired out of his mind. I reach out and grab his hand. "You should go and get some sleep. I'll be fine here."
He stared at me for a moment before shaking his head. "I can't leave. I don't want to leave you."
"And I don't want to hear it", I retorted. "You're leaving and that's final."
He huffed and stood. Looking at Will, he nodded to me and said, "Take care of her." At Will's nod, Lewis left, slamming the door behind him.
Will chuckled. "I thought he'd never leave."
I playfully punch his arm and giggle. "That was mean of you to say."
He shrugs. "It's not like that information would be useful to him. This doesn't concern him."
I narrow my eyes, the playful vibe gone. "Of course it does. He's my brother and your friend. He deserves to know everything."
He sighs. "As much as I want him to know, he can't. If he knows anymore, he'll be in danger, too. This needs to stay between you and me, and between us only."
I nod, eager to learn more.
That was when I felt my head feel lighter than usual and I pat my head. It felt like there was barely anymore hair left. The chemo's kicking in.
The realization of going bald makes me begin to tear up and I lower my hand to my lap.
Cancer and an unknown danger can really put a toll on you.
Will seemed to notice my distress and leaned back in his chair. "You should rest too, Lizzy. It's late. I can tell you everything tomorrow."
"But, what about Le-"
"Don't worry about Lewis", he interrupted. "He'll be okay, I promise."
I nodded, satisfied with his answer. That was when I felt my eyes begin to droop and I yawn loudly.
"Sleep", he whispers. "You'll need it."
The last thing I see are his eyes before I drift into unconsciousness.
