"Lizz, will you be my girlfriend?"

Will's words have been running through my head all week. It's unlike him to say stuff like that, but I think those scars have something to do with his sudden change in behavior. Fights, maybe. Or too clumsy for his own good. Well, to be honest, he is kind of clumsy. I've known him longer than most stalking fangirls, so it's my say against there's.

"Excuse me, earth to Elizabeth."

Snapping fingers catch me off-guard and I flinch, blinking rapidly and looking for the source of the snapping.

"S-sorry, Mr. Brook."

"'Sorry' doesn't feed hungry stomachs. Your absence doesn't change your work schedule. Now stop lollygagging and get to work. There's an order at table three." He hands me an order ticket and walks out, leaving me stone-faced.

I sigh and set the ticket on a clip, looking at the order. Two platters of Fish and chips and two black coffees. Ugh. I don't see how people like black coffee.

Scratching my head, I set to work. The restaurant likes to have the cooks hand-make everything, even hand make the chips (or fries, whatever you wanna call them). I've had enough experience with chopping to know what I'm doing. The part that's difficult for me is the seasoning. According to Mr. Brooks, my boss, he says I season the chips a little too much, so he leaves the seasoning to a fellow co-worker, Charlie.

He's nice, I guess. He's the only one that didn't flinch when I walked into the diner with no hair. Actually, he was sympathetic about it. "Ignore them", he had said when a couple of girls glared at me. "They're just jealous that they can't look as good as you." He had laughed, amused, but I had just looked on. Those girls had every right to assume I was ugly.

I agree with them.

"Fish and chips for table three!", I yelled, signalling that I was done. I rang the bell and Mr. Brooks comes waddling in and grabs the platters, totally ignoring me. I don't care. I have other things to do anyway.

Time is being a big asshole right now, having it being 3pm. I get off at 4pm.

One hour is too long.

"I have an order for table one, Lizzy." Charlie walks in from the dining room and starts reading off orders. I listen, but not really pay attention. As he clips the ticket up, I ask, "Hey, uh, Charlie? I have a question."

He looks over his shoulder at me. "What's up?"

I sigh. "It's just... What if you were told that there's a cure to your sickness, but you don't want to take it because you aren't... comfortable with the condition to take it. Would you still do it?"

He narrows his eyes at me and wipes his hands with a towel. "If it means curing the sickness, then yes I would take it. Why do you ask?"

Shaking my head, I turn and shake the pan over the stovetop, moving the food around and flipping it slightly. "Something just came up and I wanted advice. But I still don't know if I should do it."

Thoughts began to creep into my head and overtake my train of thought completely. Being Will's girlfriend was never something that I had planned. He knew I wasn't ready for a relationship, yet he asked anyway. And a condition to cure my cancer?

That's absolutely ridiculous.

"Why hesitate?"

Charlie's voice makes me jump back to reality. "I-I don't know", I stutter. "It doesn't sound like something I would usually do..."

I stop flipping the food and turn off the stove, letting go of the handle and grabbing a plate. "If it were any other scenario, I would most definitely take the opportunity."
