''Will you give all you can give so our banners may advance. Some will fall and some will live will you stand up and take your chance. The blood of the Martyrs will water the meadows of France. Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men. It is the music of a people who will not  be slaves again" the song ran through the funeral. Enjolras mounted Lamarque's coffin and held up the red flag. Everyone was singing the song with Enjolras. The song was cut short when police men blocked the path. They were sat on large horses and were pointing their guns right at the people who supported the revolution.

A gunshot was heard and chaos broke out.

"You killed an innocent woman" shouted Combreferre with fury. People were running in all directions and the police men were shooting blindly. Luckily, none of the Les Amis got hurt.

"To the baricades!" screamed Enjolras. The Les Amis started running to a spot infront of the cafe.

"It has begun!" shouted Rose to a beggar who was asking what was happening. The women that lived by the steeets threw furniture down on the street. Soon enough a pile of wood became their baricade.

"Wait! I will need a report on the strength of the foe" said Enjolras. Rose noticed his eyes were shining were excitement. The last time she saw that look they were just children.

''I can find out the truth.I know their ways. Fought their wars. Served my time. In the days of my youth!" said an unfamiliar voice. Rose noticed that he looked much older than any of them. His white hair was visible underneath his hat and his sparkling blue eys were drooping downwards in a tired and sad way.

"Now the people will fight" said Jehan with a smile

"And so they might. Dogs will bark. Fleas will bite" said Grantaire

"They will do what is right" said Lesgles

The man who had appeared mysteriously left silently before looking at Rose. He couldn't help but notice how beautiful she looked. Her green eyes sparkled with passion and excitement. Her hair cascaded down her back in loose curls. She had also thought that he looked quite handsome. His blue eyes were twinkling and the clothes he was wearing showed off how muscular he was. It seemed that Rose was the only one who had noticed the depressed look on his face.

"I have seen him before Rose" said Gavroche to Rose when they sat together that night.

"Maybe he was in the cafe before" suggested Rose with a shrug. Gavroche shook his head indicating that that wasn't it. He got up and went to Courfeyrac who was takkng watch. He looked exhausted but nevertheless he still searched the streets for their new member.
