"That was some stunt you pulled.", Leo huffed. "It's not a stunt .", Charles argued, slowing his pace so his friend could keep up. "I'm doing land exploration. Humans are interesting, and I want to study them.", he stated, determination and pride dropping from his voice. "Two tails", Leo corrected, "are stupid. All they do is play with magic sticks, make sand piles, and splash the water.", he jeered, rolling his eyes. "Then who made those big houses, and the wooshy, shiny things?", Charles pointed out. "I don't know, and I don't care.", the red tailed mermaid scoffed. The two pulled themselves up on a large rock. "The stars are pretty.", the spunky mermaid smiled. "Yep.", Leo agreed. "I wish we could just take some out of the sky and keep 'em. Then we could, I dunno, sell them or something.", Charles said. Leo nodded, observing a figure on the shore. He smirked, getting an idea. "Hey, since you like two tails so much, who don't you talk to that one.", Leo teased, pointing at the figure, who sat down not far from the shore. The grey-eyed siren looked at where his friend was pointing.
"I dare you.", Leo taunted.
Charles swallowed a lump in his throat. He cautiously swam closer to the odd creature. He looked behind himself to see that Leo hadn't moved an inch. "Dude!", Charles whisper-shouted. "You're stupid if you think I'm coming with you.", the amber eyed mermaid replied. Charles' fins lowered as he scowled, before attempting to get the two tail's attention. "Hey!", he shouted. The human jerked its bed up and took out a strange item. Charles stared at it, intrigued by the creature's device. "What's that?", the mermaid asked. In the blink of an eye, and almost blinding light hit him. He was in awe and shock as he held his hand in front of his eyes. 'How can humans make light?', he wondered.
The human slowly started to move towards him. "Who are you?", it asked. Charles tried to find the courage to speak. "I... I'm Charles. I don't haunt merfolk, so I, so I doubt I'd scare a human like yourself.", he squeaked. "Merfolk?", the human asked slowly. It began to nod, then looked to it's right. "He's one of you, isn't he?", it murmured. Charles furrowed his brows in confusion. 'Do all humans talk to air?', he wondered silently. "Right, right.", it nodded, continuing the strange conversation. The human looked back at the mermaid, a tired look in its sky blue eyes. "I'm sorry about her.", it sighed, "Anyways, I'm Kurt. Kurt Dawn."
"Nice to meet you, Kurt.", Charles replied. "Same to you, weird.. monster.. thing.", Kurt said awkwardly. "I'm a mermaid, actually.", Charles corrected. "That must be nice.", the human said, sitting at the shore, giving a yawn. "You get to sun bathe on rocks all day and live in big families.", he chatted. "Yeah, it's kind of like that. How did you know?", the mermaid asked cautiously. "Books.", Kurt answered simply. "Ah.", Charles nodded. The human looked at its arm, which had a shiny bracelet thing on it. "It's one thirty. I should get going.", Kurt said tiredly. It got up and dusted itself off. "Same time tomorrow? I'd ki-", it looked to it's right again before focusing it attention to Charles, who was now playing with a stick. "I'd love to have someone to talk to.", Kurt offered. "Um, sure!", Charles piped. "See you tomorrow.", Kurt said as he left, waving goodbye. "Bye.", Charles replied.
Maybe this human could help him.
