The sleepover was fun. It was filled with jokes, games, and random questions. Kurt looked happier than he'd ever been, and Charles felt the same.
"You know, I think I'd be cool as a human.", Charles said.
"Why would you want to be human?", Kurt asked.
"Well one, I'd be with you.."
Kurt looked away from Charles, a light smile tugging at his lips.
"And two, there's a whole other world where you are. You can explore my world, it's unfair that I can't go to yours.", Charles answered.
"You've got a point there.", Kurt nodded, recovering from his bashfulness, "Charles, I think I'm just gonna crash here... forever."
"You'd starve, or you'd get tipped over and drown, or something else dangerous.."
"I know, but until then I'm just going to stay on my boat and talk to you.", Kurt spoke.
Charles smiled, "Why wouldn't you go back home?"
Kurt shifted, "Home isn't home for me.. besides, it's not like I can go back..."
Charles furrowed his eyebrows, worried.
Kurt enlightened his tone, "You said you'd find home for me, slacker."
"I will, I'm working on it."
"Hey, you said you had powers, right?", Kurt asked, "Why don't you just make me a merman?"
Charles became nervous. He glanced at his arm, then back at Kurt, "That's not exactly how they work."
"Oh.. What can you do, then?"
"It-it's not a cool power..."
"Come on, you can tell me."
"I sing..", Charles said shyly, "And, like, humans are supposed to be attracted to it.. then.. uh..."
"Then what?"
"Then I'm supposed to drown them."
"Cool!"
Charles raised an eyebrow, "You think me killing people is cool?"
"No. The fact that you can kill someone without lifting a finger is cool. You get paid to sing?"
"Yeah.", Charles said, "I'm not really that good though."
"I'm sure you're great. Sing something for me."
Charles blushed, "T-the songs aren't really.. friendship songs."
"Sing anyways. This isn't like a love confession or something."
Charles felt his face heat up, "Yeah."
"I'm Miss SugarPink, liquor, liqour lips
Hit me with your sweet love
Steal me with a kiss
I'm Miss SugarPink, liquor, liqour lips
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bi-"Kurt pulled Charles' shirt, giving him a rough kiss. Charles relaxed, putting a hand to the back of Kurt's head. Kurt inched to the edge of the boat slowly as Charles began to lure him to him.
The boat tipped.
It felt wonderful, having Kurt in Charles' embrace. The boy he loved so much, who he hated seeing in so much pain, was safe with him.
And he would never let him get hurt again.
Charles dived downward, his kisses becoming gentler the further down the two were. Kurt had begun to slow down, no longer gripping onto Charles' shirt collar. Charles smiled and opened his eyes.
"You're safe now."
Kurt didn't respond.
Something knocked itself towards the two, grabbing Kurt by the arm and had begun swimming upward. Charles was broken and infuriated. His fins swerved back as he raced after the kidnapper. He grabbed its tail, his gray eyes glowing a harsh silver in anger.
He heard a familiar voice, "You have to let him go! He'll die down here, Charles. This isn't the place for him."
Charles snapped out of his trance, "Frank?"
"Let go! I'm losin' him!"
Charles let go, frozen in fear. He watched as Frank swam to the surface.
He had almost killed him, and it was all because he was a siren.
He was dangerous.
He was a monster.
Charles swam home as fast as he could, blinking away his tears as he curled up in his hammock. He faded into sleep, wishing to forget the awful day.
