Charles' Mom is dead btw.
Leo gets kidnapped and experimented on to the point to where he can't function so he's just living in misery.
Charles finds Xander hiding in a cave and he realizes that the whole hunting of mermaids and pollution won't ever stop, so he asks to become human forever so he won't have to watch anyone else die.
Xander grants his wish with the remaining drops of the potion that he has.
And at last, after 4 years of misery, pain, and fear, Charles escapes, coughing and gasping for air on the surface. He's cold, sick, and has been starved from food for so long that you can see his ribs...
A boat is dragged to land.
"Charles? Is that you?"
