Eugene and Keith were visited that day by Shane and Ryan, delivering the news that Kuwilileni was innocent. Knowing someone still had it out for Keith kept them on high alert.
Later that night Keith went out to the drug store to pick up some NyQuil, in hopes he'd be able to sleep.
Eugene had already fallen fast asleep after a long day of working hard, so he hadn't noticed Keith had left.
The next morning, Eugene woke up in an empty bed. It was very unusual because normally Keith would come back and wake him up with his cup of coffee, but Eugene didn't even smell coffee.
"Keith? Honey?" He called. No response. Eugene got up and walked to the kitchen and he still couldn't find his boyfriend. "Keith!" He called again, in a sort of panic.
Eugene ran to the front door and to his horror found what he had been looking for. Keith's body was laid on the front step with a large steak knife in his back. Blood stained his clothes and hands.
"Keith!" Eugene cried.
Ned hurried to the front door to see what was happening and his eyes found the bloody mess at the front door.
"Eugene..." he said in a calming tone, pulling him away from the body. "I'm so sorry."
