CHAPTER SEVEN:

Carpeing Those Diems.

"Christina Joy Davids. I swear to God that if you don't answer your phone in the next ten minutes, I will not be held accountable for my actions. We have a Code Red, woman. Answer your dam phone," I made a pause. "And if by all means you can find Jess and bring her here, please do."

I had not the slightest thought as to where Christina was. She didn't seem to notice the last seven calls or so. I didn't get a drive home since I hadn't seen her, and Jess had swimming practice on Mondays, so I had to walk home alone. Or ran home alone and now was sitting on my bed jumping up and down.

Where the actual hell was she?

Not ten minutes had passed since that last thought when I heard the familiar sound of a car stopping and two doors closing simultaneously. "No way," I muttered with a smile, shaking my head and glancing out my window.

Sure enough, they were here. Chris locking her green Volkswagen and starting down to the front door, talking to an angry-looking/hair-dripping-wet Jessica.

"What happened?" Christina asked as she opened my bedroom door with a bang! Jessica was walking in behind her, rinsing off her dripping wet red hair with a towel. I suppressed a smile. "We're here. What's wrong? Bells!"

"I hope it makes up for taking me out of practice," Jessica muttered, with a glare thrown in Christina's direction. "There I was, with my head underwater, when suddenly I felt something yank me by the arm—" she pointed at Chris indigently "—she dragged me out of the pool. I'm not even kidding. It hurt, Christina."

"Yeah, sure," Chris waved her off impatiently. "I wanna know what happened!"

Jessica glared at her even more— if such a thing was even possible. I fervently tried not to burst out laughing. I was getting quite the show from watching one discuss the other. I knew for a fact that Chris would not stop when it meant getting dragging anyone anywhere if it meant getting what she wanted. It was that precise situation that got me to this point in time.

I looked at Jessica, then at Chris. I was trying hard not to smile, but I found it rather hard to do so. I opened my bag and took out the piece of paper attached to the letter, and began to read them out loud what's written.

"I find myself waiting for the letters. I like writing to you more than a sane person would enjoy writing personal stuff to a stranger, but I don't find you as a stranger anymore, but someone I wish I met in person." I made a pause to take a breath but quickly continued. "Frankly, I do love writing to someone who listens and understands. If you don't want to know who I am just yet, it's okay, but here's something if you'd like to talk frequently. Quicker."

I finished and couldn't help but smile. I looked at my friends' faces, and Jessica had her hand over her open mouth. Chris just muttered, "Holy shit."

"Well, I must admit it is kind of worth Chris dragging me out of practice," Jess rejoiced with a laugh. "Bells has a boyfriend!" Jessica sang animatedly, clapping her hands together, smiling wide.

"Shut up," I snapped, though I was laughing. "The guy's not my boyfriend."

"Bells is going to get a boyfriend!" she sang and corrected herself.

"Oh, my God, they grow up so quickly," Chris remarked, feigning emotion. She wiped a fake tear off her cheek. I rolled my eyes.

I shook my head, smiling and folding the letter back. "I literally cannot stop thinking about it," I said and sat down on my window seat, legs crossed. I turned to Chris. "Why didn't you answer my ridiculous number of phone calls and texts?"
