The past couple of days have been hell for both Taehyung and Jungkook.
Jungkook walks into school and waits like a puppy at his locker for Tae, who has been late the last three days. They make eyes contact, but Taehyung ends up quickly looking away and Jungkook wants to cry.
Their friends are suffering too.
Over the past couple of months, they had formed a new lunch table. Jungkook had insisted on sitting with Tae. Namjoon and Jin quickly joined. Jimin eventually came over with a reluctant Yoongi and it just became their daily thing.
Lately, Taehyung has been sitting at a table in the back with Jin, despite him repeatedly telling the elder to sit with Namjoon instead. Jungkook sits at the table with Jimin and Yoongi, whose attempts to cheer him up are pretty much useless since he spends the period watching Tae.
Jungkook keeps his phone with him all the time, just in case Taehyung decides he has something to say, but every night when he falls asleep his disappointed by the silence.
Today is the fourth day of silence.
"How long is this going to last?" Jin asks Taehyung gently at lunch. "You can't keep freezing him out. I know he did a horrible thing, but he's still a good guy."
The other sighs. "I know. That's not why. I just don't know what to do. Hoseok will be pissed at me if I stay with him, not that I completely blame him. And friendship is more important than any romance, right?"
Jin chews on the inside of his cheek. "Usually I'd say yes, but I don't know. This is just some...thing. You two really like each other. I really don't think there's any other Jeon Jungkooks out there."
"So you'd risk the friendship?"
"I don't know," the elder admits. "It's a hard spot. But you don't know that your friendship is over."
"Oh, you should've seen Hoseok."
Taehyung sighs, his eyes full of angry tears and ends up putting his head down on the table to hide them.
Across the cafeteria, Jungkook sadly watches.
A grape bounces off his forehead and he glares over at Yoongi, who doesn't look the least bit sorry.
"Stop being a pabo," he grumbles.
"He hasn't said a word to me in days," Jungkook snaps. "I have no idea what's going on. I'm sorry I'm upset."
The mint haired male chews on his lip. "I don't blame you. I just don't like this whole thing."
"Maybe you should try to talk to him," Jimin says. "I think this is excess. It was a shitty thing that we all took part in."
Yoongi rolls his eyes. "You didn't even do anything."
"I didn't stop any of you."
"I know why he's not saying anything," Jungkook sighs. "He doesn't know what to do. He doesn't want to hurt Hoseok or me. He doesn't know what to do, so he's avoiding me until he does."
"It's still not okay," Yoongi says.
"Yeah." He looks back over to see Taehyung's head still facedown on the lunch table. "I guess if I don't hear anything today, I'll make him talk to me tomorrow. I'm just scared this is all over because of that night."
He gets up with his tray, dumping the food in the trash and walking out while Jimin and Yoongi exchange a sad look.
Taehyung is doing what he always does when he feels his lowest: laying on his bed while listening to the most angsty playlist on his Spotify.
