SHORT SUMMARY.
He was the picture perfect person, the kind of person that drew smiles and made hearts race without even meaning to - because he was Emmett McCarty, the boy with perfect dimples and tiny curls.
And despite how much she loved him, Emmett didn't have the right to take promise her everything only to die a few short months later.
PLOT.
Emmaline Donagh was a typical girl living in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The kind of girl that was better off than the others that were living through hard times, the youngest of three and free to love with her entire heart.
She loved Emmett, the boy capturing her attention easily, filling her world with a simple ring and a proposal that stole her every waking thought.
Emmett dies, shattering Emmaline's world and sending her into a downward spiral full that had her parents so worried that they arranged a marriage to a mysterious newcomer to town, a man with strange red eyes and pockets full of money.
Emmaline is convinced that she loves him, even when he turns her into something horrible, but she can't seem to understand why she continues to think of Emmett while she kisses the man she had stood beside for so many years. Or why her heart sings when she sees him again, so many years later, with dazzling topaz eyes that smile at her the same way they did way back when.
EXTRAS.
Emmaline was engaged to Emmett when they were both alive? Like she loved this boy so much she thought her feelings for him would just overflow and ruin her and they sorta did when he died?
Emmaline's parents own a shop in town that makes it easier for them to make money even with the crappy economy. She isn't the oldest or a boy that would add to the family so her parents ultimately don't care that she agrees to marry him, nor do they understand why she's so upset when he dies. They think setting her up will fix everything?
She convinces herself she loves the vampire that changed her because it helps keep her mind away from Emmett but it doesn't work very well because she's still thinking of him all the time.
Emmett and Emmaline meet again in Breaking Dawn when the Cullen's are gathering witnesses. She is very much surprised by him and the overwhelming love she feels for him upon sight.
They should get together by the end but it's only after like a whole bunch of angst on Emmaline's part and denial followed by tears and angry breakups with her vamp boyf/dude that she has spent so many years with. Like she has to come to terms that she doesn't actually love this guy.
