Mom woke up the next Sunday morning at 8am. I was at Kile's house having breakfast again. Ahren came right back when he heard about mom, and I apologised to him straight away.
We were okay again, everything was right. Ahren is home, mom is okay, and Kile and I are perfect.
"How long is Ahren staying?" Kile asks
I swallow my bite of oatmeal. "I'm not too sure, I haven't really asked." I shrug, "I guess I'm just scared he'll say he's leaving soon"
Kile nods, understanding. He always understands. He puts a hand on my thigh gently to reassure me but I nearly jump out of my skin.
"Drive me home?" I ask
Kile smiles, he loves our drives as much as I do. We talk and laugh and it's like the whole world disappears but us. And it's all perfect.
"So it's our one month anniversary soon and I was thinking that I'd take you out for it" Kile looks over at me, one hand on the wheel and the other in mine. I stroke my thumb along his hand and smile.
"I'd love that"
"Perfect so I'll plan it out and let you know"
My smile lasts the rest of the day
——I go to see mom in the hospital everyday but today when I walk into her room, the bed is empty.
"Mom?!" I look everywhere. Behind the door, in the bathroom, I even look under the bed.
A nurse rushes in the room, "what's wrong?"
"What's wrong?! Where's my mom?"
The nurse reaches for a file behind the door and reads it quickly, "America Schreave went home hours ago"
Shit. I missed it. I look for my phone quickly and see five missed calls from dad. I dial his number quickly and hope he's not mad.
"Dad? Hey I'm sorry, my phone was on silent"
"It's okay, where are you? I have a surprise"
I decide to let him think it's a surprise, "I'm on my way to the hospital to see mom."
Dad chuckles, clears his throat and says "well you'll be very disappointed because your mother is home"
I fake shock, "really?! That's great!"
"Yeah so hurry home, we're going to have dinner together as a family!"
I rush home, everything is perfect.
