Summer Changed Me

Mom

//Time skip to saturday brought to you by an uneventful week in the story//

It was around 5 pm, I was out with Armin, Mikasa, Levi, Erwin and Hange, we were playing volleyball, we played in teams, me and Levi, Armin and Erwin and Mikasa and Hange. Me and Levi were currently watching Armin and Erwin playing with Mikasa and Hange, we were holding hands and talking while watching until something caught my eye, a simply thing, a mother and a young boy, her son arguing until it stopped and he just ran off, an older girl going after him probably his sister, after a while they came back and he hugged his mother as they all went home happy.

My attention was brought back by Levi who softly went over the back of my hand with his thumb. "You okay?" he asked "Oh um yeah" I smiled, that scene reminded me of my relationship with my mother, I started remembering memories of my mom as we played together. My memories started coming back of my mom and the more they did the sooner it got to a memory I didn't want to remember.

It all came back the day she died, how she died, why she died, I didn't want to remember, I let go of Levi's hand, got up and walked off, the stupid fight we had on the day she died, me never saying sorry or hugging or saying I loved her, soon tears weld up in my eyes, I couldn't stop it. "Guys!" I heard Levi yell as he saw me go on my knees "Not again" I heard Mikasa, Mikasa and Armin both knew what was happening, they quickly got to me "Hey hey hey, Eren look at me" Mikasa started softly rushing the first words "Everything is fine, it wasn't your fault, everything is fine, relax" she tried to calm me, but it was all in my mind, I couldn't stop it, none of it, that day everything changed "Eren we're here calm down everything is fine" Armin or at least I think it was him, I couldn't focus anymore, everything from that day came back.

Flashback 11 years ago

Me and Mikasa were playing outside, Armin came over and we played around more before my mother called us in for diner. She never mind Armin staying and having diner with us, we all ate together, my father was telling us how he would be going out on a business trip for a week. We finished our meal and then went back outside and played again, my mother joined us after cleaning the dishes.

After that I can barely remember what happened except me and my mom got into an argument, I don't remember what it's about nor do I want to, I remember me running off with Mikasa trailing after me but I lost her after a while. I remember going to a place in the woods, we used to live outside the city, I remember being there alone with my thoughts, my stubborn thoughts.

By the time I got home my mother was dead, died in a car crash the policeman said, some lunatic was driving around over the speed limit, but I knew that that wasn't the reason why she died, I knew it was because of me, if I didn't run off, if I didn't have that stupid argument with her she wouldn't be dead, she went to look for me, she was worried about me and where I was.

Ever since her funeral I couldn't stop thinking it was my fault after she died, I stayed in my room for most days and months later my father left us, me and Mikasa to fend for ourselves.

End of flashback

I pushed everyone away, I ran off again, I need to go see her, I need to go to her grave, I can't stop. "Mikasa take me to her right now!" I practically yelled with tears in my eyes, she hesitated but nodded, we went to her car and I got in the back while trying to compose myself, she got in with Armin moments later and started the car, she drove us, an hour passed before we stopped.

We stopped in front of a flower shop, Mikasa got out and bought some flowers and 4 lanterns, she put it all in the back seat next to me then drove again.

Hours passed before we finally got to the place we buried our mother, I got out of the car with Mikasa and Armin, I went ahead before them. I walked to her grave while thinking about that day, that stupid argument, bringing me to tears again, I never said sorry, I never hugged her again, I never told her I loved her again.
