Lisa's P.O.V.

"Minnie! Sorn!" I exclaimed as I got into the cafeteria, and waved at them smilingly.

Minnie and Sorn were my Thai childhood friends. We used to play together back in Bangkok when we were little, but then they moved here and we met again today.

I took my tray and sat next to them at the table.

"So, how is your first day here so far?" Sorn asked me, widening her eyes.

"It's...good", I answered, nodding slowly while chewing my noodles. "No teacher hates me yet, so I'm fine with this place", and we all laughed at the memory of all our elementary teachers from Thailand hating me.

"What about the classmates? Do you have any friends just yet?" Minnie asked.

"Well...just you guys", I said, and giggled uncomfortably. I didn't think of making friends. So seems like I haven't made any.

"Don't worry, people here are 99% introverts", Sorn said, patting my shoulder. "But, they are very friendly once you start talking to them and you...you know, get to know them."

"So, girls, I don't know if I'm wrong or not, but there's this girl in basically all of my classes, her name is Soyeon, and I feel like she doesn't like me", I sighed and pouted, looking down. "I'm not sure why, but she seems to look me up with cold eyes all the time. It's like I disgust her or something."

"Oh, don't worry about Soyeon", Minnie assured me. "She seems cold, distant and superior at the beginning because she is part of the popular squad - but she is a really friendly person, so I'm pretty sure she'll be your friend in a blink of an eye. She's just...you know...popular. "

"Eh?" I asked, frowning confusedly. "Popular? What is that supposed to mean?"

"Well, in this school, we have different social ranks that we use to identify people, if calling it that way makes sense", Sorn said nodding and looking at Minnie, who approved. "There's the unpopular nerds, those weirdos that read a lot, have good grades and may be friendly, but pretty much everyone ignores them, so they're not considered popular. There's the okay kids - they don't get too much attention, but they aren't hated or ignored either - they're somewhere in the middle. And there's the popular kids - like Soyeon, who always get attention and have many friends."

I nodded, to show Sorn that I understood what she was trying to explain. I sighed. I really wanted to make new friends.

Don't worry though. I will.
