Naked Reads (The Classics)

I am not only a writer; I am also a reader. While writing is my salvation, reading is my redemption. Hindi ko kailanman maiintindihan ang mga taong hindi mahilig magbasa. 

I have a voracious appetite for the classics. Poetry or prose, I'm down for it. Wala akong pinipiling genre, although I have my personal favorite genres.

Last year, hindi ako masyadong nakapagbasa ng mga libro pero ngayong taon ay bumabawi ako. Alam kong kailanman ay hindi matatapos ang reading list ko dahil araw-araw ay nadadagdagan iyon. But instead of being pressured and frustrated, I'm happy and at ease. Ang isipin na napakaraming magagandang kuwento ang hindi ko pa nababasa ay nakakalugod sa aking damdamin. That means, I will never run out of good novels to read.

Anyway, heto ang ilan sa mga nabasa ko so far this year:

1. The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky

Ito ang huling akda ni master Dostoevsky. Sa nobelang 'to, mapapatanong ka kung paano ba natin hinahatulan ang mga kriminal at kung patas ba ang paghahatol natin sa kanila. From Ivan the atheist, Dmitiri the sensualist, and Alyosha the religious. Kung mahilig ka sa psychology at philosophy, Dostoevsky's the man to read. Although, mas bet ko pa rin 'yung Crime and Punishment n'ya kesa dito. Still, this one was a deep read and was worth every second of reading time.

2. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Hands down one of the best Gothic novels evahhh. You get to think about the definition of "monster" and realize to what extent a creator should be responsible for his or her creation ('yung mga bioethics junkie d'yan, check this book out). Kung mahilig ka sa sci-fi, you shouldn't miss this.

3. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Reading this novel made me dig deeper into the morality of man. Good and evil both exist, at ang nobelang ito ay pinapakita iyon. Mas interested ako sa mga batang character ng kuwento dito kesa kay Atticus Finch dahil nakita ko 'yung pinakamalalaking transition at transformation ng characters sa kanila.

4. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas

Sinong hindi nakakakilala kay D'Artagnan, Athos, Aramis, at Porthos?

Wala akong ibang masabi kundi nag-enjoy akong basahin ito. When it comes to classics, minsan mo lang mai-tag ang salitang "fun", pero pagdating sa nobelang ito, there is no better way to describe it but "fun".

5. Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes

Aliw na aliw and at the same time ay naaawa rin ako sa main character ng story na ito. Napapakanta ako ng Impossible Dream while reading this story, and I don't know why.

6. Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos

It's very French. No more words need be said.

7. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

Grade five ako ng una ko 'tong mabasa. I reread it again now that I'm older, and I still love it. Anne and Judy Abbot (from Daddy Long Legs) are my OG childhood heroines.

I wish I have more time to read. Next time, I'll share to you my current reading list.
