Chloe's POV
It was the last day of the school year, I was with Shaun as always. There was only an hour left, and we were given homeroom so we could say our goodbyes to our friends, classmates, teachers. Yes, this school is different. The school allows us to roam the school freely for an hour before final dismissal. We go outside of our class. I look around the hallway, I see most people going with their friends, saying goodbye to their teachers, all that sad boring school year goodbye stuff. I wanted the last day to have a little spice, so I go to my younger sister's classroom. I call her out.
Chloe: Hey, Christie. Come here for a sec.
Christie: What is it, Chloe?
Chloe: So...I noticed that you weren't doing anything.
Christie: And?
Chloe: Why don't you tell your little crush that you like him, Lil' Sis.
Christie: No thanks.
Chloe: C'mon, it'll be fun. You had a crush on him since you were in 6th grade right? I guess it's time to confess your feelings.
Christie: What if he doesn't like me?
Chloe: Well screw him! Plus, I don't think he'd turn down your cute face.
Shaun: Hey, Chloe. Don't force your Sis to confess to him.
Chloe: Don't listen to him, Chloe. Shaun's just jealous 'cause Christie likes someone else.
Christie: Don't worry, Shaun. I think you're cute😉.
Shaun blushes.
Christie goes near her crush Aiden Freewich. She walks to him, she stops, she comes back to us. Our little girl is so shy. You see, the moment she laid her eyes on him on the first day she developed a crush on him. Aiden's isn't that good looking, to be honest, but he isn't bad looking either. I walk up to Christie, I tell her: "If you don't do this now, Christie, you may never have another chance to tell him about your feelings." "You love him, don't you? Then go for it!" She walks towards him again, this time with confidence. I didn't see the shy Christie that I knew from the day she was born. I saw a girl that was so confident in expressing her feeling to a guy she loved. She stands behind him, she calls his name, they look at each other's eyes.
Christie: Aiden...
Aiden: What is it, Christie? Is there a problem?
Christie: NO! I mean...No. The school year's about to end in 15 mins, right?
Aiden: Yea, time flies by so fast, doesn't it?
Christie: Yea, it does.
Aiden: So, do you need anything, Christie?
Christie: Oh, Aiden I have to tell you something.
Aiden: What is it, Christie?
Christie: Aiden I lo--
Christie was cut off by Amanda.
Amanda: Hi, Aiden love.
Aiden: Hi, Love. How was your day?
Amanda: It was fine, we didn't do much. Hi, Christie. What are you doing here?
Christie: ...you two look like such a cute couple.
Amanda: Thanks, Christie.
Aiden: Hehe, thank you. So, what were you saying? You lo--?
Christie: I...lo--look forward to seeing you again next year. I hope the two of you take care.
Aiden: Thanks, Christie. We look forward to seeing you too.
Christie walks out of the conversation with tears in her eyes. She runs to the door. I run after her, but it was too late. I couldn't find her anyway. Shaun helped me look for her. We looked everywhere at school. I called my Mom and told her what happened, she also tried to help find Christie. I kept looking around town. I saw a little girl on the bench in the park. I walk up to her.
Chloe: Christie there you are!
The girl looks at me. It wasn't Christie, it was Kara just reading a book.
Chloe: Oh, Kara, sorry. I thought you were Christie.
Kara: What's wrong?
Chloe: She ran away and we've been looking for her all day.
Kara: I'm sorry. I haven't seen her all day.
Chloe: Oh ok. Could you call me if you happen to see her?
Kara: Sure, Chloe. No problem.
I start looking around town again and again. We couldn't find her. I went to the police station and ask them if they saw where my sister was. They told me that they would keep an eye out. The police phone rang.
Police 1: Sir, there's been a car accident at 10 Avenue North-West Street.
Police 2: Hey, Chloe. You stay here, I promise I'll help you look for your sister when I come back. For now go home.
I went out of the station. I still look for her. I refuse to give up on my sister. Even though I was walking home, I still kept looking for her and praying that she was alright.
I see the car accident that the police were talking about. There was a car, the driver, and a body on the road. The paramedics come they check the body. "She has a pulse!" They yell. I run towards the accident. I see the girl, she has blood all over her head. I look at her face. I was shocked at what I saw. I was Christie...my Sister was lying on the road...bleeding. I start crying, I run to her. The police try to stop me, but the officer that I spoke with earlier let me go near my sister. He told me that she was going to be okay. I couldn't do anything but cry. I went with them to the hospital. I call my Mom and Dad.
"Mom, Dad," I said as tears were dripping from my eyes.
"What happened, Honey? Why are you crying? Did you see Christie?" Mom asked.
"Mom, you and Dad have to come to the hospital right now! Christie had an accident!" I said crying.
I cried an ocean of tears, I couldn't do anything but beg them to save my sister. We arrive at the hospital, she was rushed to the ER. Mom and Dad arrive shortly after. I saw her heartbeat flatline. They keep reviving her. We couldn't do anything but hope and cry that she was alright. The doctor comes out after almost 30 mins of trying to revive her.
"Doc please tell us that Christie is ok." My mom begs.
"She's stable, but the accident caused significant damage to her brain and she's now in a coma. To be honest, even I don't know if she'll wake up." The doctor said.
"Is there a chance for her to wake up?" Dad asked.
"It's 50/50 from this point." The doctor said.
I couldn't do anything. I wanted justice for my sister. I went to the police station where the driver of the car was being investigated, while Mom and Dad stayed with Christie. I went to him, I slapped him, I hit him with all my might as I cried. An officer stopped me. I wanted to know what really happened, I asked to check the CCTV footage. I watched the footage, Christie was just standing in the middle of the road. It looked like she was standing there on purpose, just waiting for a car to run her over. After 5 mins, it happened. She didn't do anything to get out of the way, it's like she wanted it to happen.
I went back to the hospital, I sat in the lobby. I told Shaun what happened. He cried so much, almost as much as we all did. Shaun loves Christie. I looked back at what caused everything to happen. I realized...it was my fault...if I hadn't told her to talk to Ai--wait no no no. If Aiden hadn't rejected her then she wouldn't have run away. Aiden Freewich...it's your fault, it's his fault. I cried because of sadness and anger. I cried so much I didn't realize that I fell asleep.
