MR CALIBAN'S voice zooms me back to reality. He was talking about cell formation and genes and all of that boring nonsense. I must dozed off for a second or two because Mr Caliban is calling my name.
'Ye?' I murmur drowsily. The whole class snickers. I turn around and grin at them all. They still laugh. Shane, who is also coincidentally in my biology class, glares at them and they quieten. That's another problem to add to my list of being a girl. Considered to be a weak individual and people often laugh at me. I wish I could be more like Beyoncé and preach about feminism. But I can't- well in the middle of a class- and turn around to face Mr Caliban.
'Miss Hayes, can you tell me what cause tomatoes to ripen more slowly in a refrigerator?' He questions. This must've been today's fun fact. I stay quiet and look behind me for help. I have few friends but I glance at them. Jay shrugs at my stare and I scowl. The entire class is waiting for me, expectant for me to not answer this question. I rack my brain and think about everything I've learnt so far this semester. Caliban doesn't do things that are unrelated in his classroom. I give a weak guess.
'Because there are less action of enzymes?'
Mr Caliban looks surprised and he claps. Everyone stays silent and I feel triumphant. 'So you weren't dozing off, must've been a figment of my imagination,' He says with a grin. Don't get me wrong, but Caliban is a great teacher, he just likes to challenge his students and get the job done.
'I was just tired, I was studying all night. I just closed my eyes but I was listening to every word.' A lie, I was awake thinking about my newfound power. Perhaps it had been a hallucination. I had thought for a second but started to shiver as I had no
warm duvet to keep me warm and shield me against the biting winds of NYC's fall. I also had dozed off.Caliban stares at the entire class. 'You assignment-' A collective groan is heard around the class. He grins at us all. 'Read page 69 of your textbook.' I sigh, along with everyone else. Nothing too bad. 'Oh and do this worksheet, you've got until next lesson.' Mutters are heard around the class and I glare at Caliban. He takes no notice. The bell rings and we can go. As I walk out someone slips me a note. Jace, a boy I hardly know. I take it suspiciously and walk to room 127 for period 3. My stomach makes a loud rumbling noise and I grab a bar of chocolate from my pocket and stroll into room 127.

TO SAY I'm tired is understating it. I yawn considerably loudly when I'm in Jay's, one of my only friends, car. She glances at me and takes something from her handbag. I don't how that girl can do that but she can. I'm sorta surprised when Jay pulls out a juice pouch.
'Jay,' I start sinisterly. 'Who's that for?'
'Me,' She replies, keeping her eyes on the road. She turns right and I scowl. She glanced at me and chucks the juice pouch to me. 'Stop sulking!'
I laugh evilly and even rub my hands. I see what flavour it is and notice it's blackberry. I squeal loudly. 'Thanks!' I shout. She laughs.
'Thought it would be wise to give you it in your cranky mood. I was scared you were going boxer punch me or karate kick me,' She says with a huff. I grin at her while sucking the juice from my straw. The car halts to a stop. 'We're here,' She announces. With all my excitement about the juice pouch I hadn't noticed that we had stopped outside of the Gym. They did varieties of different activities to help us keep fit. Jay comes with me every week. I go three times every week. Once for general fitness, another for boxing and lastly for karate. At school they had a jiu-jitsu program for self-defence. I learnt some jiu-jitsu at the school.
We enter and we both start in the treadmills. I look around as I'm running and see a tanned boy (or man?), he looked around my age- 17. His eyes catch mine but I avert my eyes. From the corner of my eyes I can see him head over. His dirty blonde hair was hanging over his head and his blue- no they seem lighter and different. As he nears I can see his eyes are a very light shade of violet. I recall a fact that only 2% of the population have violet eyes. He stops a bit before me and I suck in a breath. His jawline, an angular sexy thing, is set firmly.
'Karen, are you ready?' He says. His voice is velvety and rough. But I'm not Karen so he's not talking to me. I grit my teeth and carry on running. I can't help but overhear their conversation.
'Yep!' She replies chirpily, but I'm sure she's a nice person. 'Let's go!' I want to roll my eyes at her radiating... pinkness. Her blonde hair bobs around wildly as she turns the machine off and I gag when it gets in my face.
'Gegyah,' I groan as her hair goes in my face. I turn the machine off and move to go somewhere else. I feel an hand touch my arm- no sparks- and mystery blonde lean yet probably fit stares at me.
'My friend, Karen, would like to say something,' He says coolly , his violet eyes piercing mine. I hadn't realised Karen was next to him.
'I'm very sorry that I accidentally flung my hair into your face,' She says sincerely. From the way she says it it sounds like she did it on purpose but I know she didn't since I was there.
'It's alright, I forgive you.' Karen makes a relived sigh sort of nice and she and blonde guy, of which I didn't catch his name, walk away.
As if he knew I was staring, Lean, probably muscled, Blonde guy turns his head. 'Ryder.' And then he walks off with Karen. They leave and I realise something. Barbie and Ken. They looked perfect but nobody was as perfect as Barbie and Ken. Nobody lived in a dream house. But a normal person to me is perfect, they didn't have their brother taken away for no apparent reason.

JAY CATCHES up to me as I walk to her car. We've been at the gym for an hour and a half and I've decided to check on my mom. We walk out and I notice Ryder is still there, he gives me a shark's grin and then leaves. I'm perplexed but I ignore him. The satisfying beep of Jay's car sounds in my head, I clamber in and sit in the back. Jay glances at me before I lock my seatbelt in place. I close my eyes slightly and before I realise it, I'm asleep.
