Chapter 12: Escape

As everything settled down and the struggling in the ceiling had subsided, I resumed my search for the medications.

Finding the ointment, bandages and pills, I grab a nearby bag and pack as much of the medications inside it as I can. My progression is swift, knowing I am still under a tight time limit, the police on their way as well.

Once the bag is stuffed full of medication, I turn around and glance up into the vent to see who must be Valtiel facing down at me.

"...Uh...do you know how I can get out of here quickly...?" My words were hesitant, unknowing of whether or not this creature would be willing to help me any further.

He nods as he reaches down for the bag. Handing it to him, he pulls it into the ceiling and swings it onto his back. To my surprise, he then reaches his hand down to me.

For a moment I hesitate, the creature's features frightening me to the point of hesitation. Pushing myself, knowing there is no other option, I reach up and grab his hand. He pulls me up into the ceiling swiftly, making me cry out in surprise. He places me sitting down upon the metal within the vent, instantly feeling a thick puddle of wet, sticky fluid against my bare skin. Just as the sensation is triggered into my mind, my vision is filled with a familiar deep red.

The entirety of the vent is covered in splattered blood, the vent's flooring pooled in it. Shifting my gaze toward the source, I take in the sight of the security guard's body stuffed into the vent, barely fitting within the small space. The body, lying mangled and twisted across the vent's opening from us, makes me nearly vomit.

Without even noticing, Valtiel had begun making his way through the vent behind me. Shifting my gaze onto him again, I cry out in worry and quickly crawl after him. His body is small, thin and agile, making way through the small ventilation shaft with ease. Me on the other hand, despite also being small and thin, struggle my way through. My fear of having the shaft make noise as I travel through it, or the floor suddenly giving out beneath me keeps my progression hesitant.

Finally I speak up, "Why are you here? How is this possible for you to be in the real world?"

To my surprise, the creature responds accordingly, unlike my past experience with Pyramid, 'Alessa requested that I assist you on this task. She does not favor the thought of having you lose your life.' He responds to me, his voice not as deep and booming as Pyramid's, but he still uses telepathy like he does.

"Oh, she did?" His response surprises me.

He nods and stops, sitting in a location within the vent which appears to be more stable and stronger. He then grabs the bag off his back and puts it down in front of him, beginning to unpack it.

I stop and observe curiously, also growing worried, "what are you looking for?"

'How much did you gather, and how long will it last.'

"Enough for a very long time. If we run out, I can fetch more..." my worry grows, hoping he doesn't make me go back to grab more.

He then seems to nod, repacking everything back up. He puts the bag onto his back once more and continues on through the vents.

Eventually we come to a dead end. The only way to continue, is up.

"What now..." worry fills my voice, beginning to look around within the darkness.
