Lizzie/Eliza's POV

I lay on the beach, my large sunglasses covering half my face and my magazine covered the other. I wore a purple bikini and let the sun paint me a nice light brown colour.

Phil was swimming in the sea with Clara and I glanced at them every now and again - they're smiles, laughter and love for each other gave me so much happiness.

"Alright there, Doolittle?" I looked up at Dan and rolled my eyes (luckily he couldn't see through my sunglasses).

"I was doing very well until you arrived." He laughed and lay down next to me. "Excuse me, you cannot lie here." I sat up straight.

"It's a free country." He argued, not moving.

"Haven't you heard of personal space?"

"Pretty sure I'm not that close!"

"You're close enough to annoy me, so piss off!" There was a silence for a minute while I lay back down and pretended to read my magazine.

"You shape up nicely in a bikini, Doolittle. Not so shy now that we're not in a swimming pool, are we?"

"Didn't think you'd be here, so no."

"Aww! Do I make you shy! That's cute, Doolittle. I'll leave you alone if you just confess your love for me."

"I could, but my daddy always told me not to lie! So, for the last time, fuck off!" He held his hands up innocently and walked away.

I watched him, as he shuffled off, and a tiny smile appeared on my lips. He sat down on the sand: his arms hugging his knees, and for the first time since i'd met him, I felt bad for being so harsh.

Suddenly, the glorious sound of the ice cream van appeared, so I went skipping after it.

I bought to beautifully sprinkled ice creams which were already melting at the speed of light and skipped back down to the beach, careful not to drop either ice creams.

I slowed to a stroll and sat down next to Dan on the beach. I handed him the other ice cream and he looked completely starstruck. "Well? Do you want it?" I asked, thrusting the ice cream into his hand.

"Why the fuck did you buy me an ice cream?"

"I can't be a bitch all of my life." He laughed and finally took the ice cream.

We sat there in silence for a while, eating the ice creams and watching my family and Phil's friends play beach volleyball.

"Okay, Howell. I think I owe you a swim for being a bitch last night. Chop chop, Daniel, into your trunks." I jogged into the sea and ran straight into a huge wave. He stayed sat on the beach; still licking his ice cream. Even from the sea I could see his half smile and deep dimple. "Get a move on, Howell! Don't be fucking boring!" I shouted after him.

He laughed and held up the ice cream as if to say: "I haven't finished yet."

"Fuck the ice cream. I'm getting cold!" I shouted back. He shrugged, kissed the ice cream, and dropped it into the sand. Both Dan, and I, looked at the sandy ice cream as if we had just committed a murder.

Dan quickly got changed into his trunks and followed after me, into the sea. "Fuck fuck fuck, it's fucking freezing. It's summer for fuck's sake the water should be fucking warm. Fucking hell."

"Oh, please! Grow a pair, Daniel." I splashed water all over him, and watched as it started dripping from his floppy hair.

"Oh my god, you did not just do that..." I ran off deeper into the sea. He launched himself at me and we both dropped under the water. We opened our eyes and swam together, pointing out the different fish we could see. I suddenly poked his nipple and tried to swim away as quickly as possible. He managed to get a tight grip on my ankle and pulled me back. I kicked him in the stomach and swam away, laughing. I rose above the surface to allow me to breath, when I felt something poke my belly button. I squealed and Dan was already laughing as he arose from the surface too. "Oh! Are you ticklish there, Doolittle?" I screamed and swam away from him, as his fingers started to touch my stomach.

A couple of hours later we both crawled onto the sand and curled up in some big, fluffy towels. It was hard to believe that we had been at the beach all day, as it had gone so quickly.

The sun was setting and we watched as orange, red and yellow painted over the blue sky.

I put on my jumpsuit over my bikini and shivered. Out of the sun, it was freezing. Dan saw the goosebumps on my arms and chucked me his large, thick hoody. I slithered into it and walked off, to the beach cafe, allowing Dan to get changed in peace.

I ordered two hot chocolates, and when I returned to the beach, Dan and I huddled together, drinking them and watching the sea in the night sky.

"I guess you're not as boring as I thought you were, Doolittle." He whispered.

"Is that supposed to be a compliment?" He nodded, staring at me. "What?" I asked, still whispering. He did a shifty smile and looked away from me.

"Nothing." He whispered.

"No, seriously Dan, what?" I asked in a small voice. He bit his lip.

"I don't know, I just... I just realised how beautiful you are." His voice was husky and sexy as he spoke. I let slip a very ugly laugh which sounded more like a cackle.

It was only then, that I noticed, not only was no one else on the beach, but that the bus was gone.

They'd left us.
