Dan's POV
I ran down the, now deserted, street. It was dark, and the clouds loomed above me, blocking out any moonlight that could sneak its way through.
My legs ached, and my lungs were reaching for any oxygen they could grab, and my head was pounding. I didn't care how unfit my body was, I needed to run. I needed to get away. Part of me wanted to go down every side street, and in every shop looking for Eliza, but I knew that my head would gargle out all the wrong words, even if I did find her. I never thought Eliza would have been the type of girl to pull the "I'm going to the bathroom" trick, to get away from me. I knew, as soon as she arrived, that she wouldn't last 2 minutes with me while I was in this head space.
I ran and I ran, looking nowhere, other than straight ahead. Until something caught my eye.
Some bright light flashed from one of the narrow and dirty side streets. It flashed again and again. I slowed my run, to a walk, to a stroll, until I eventually stopped. I looked down the street, towards the bald man with the small flashing mirror. I didn't need to think about it for any longer than a few seconds. So, taking one shaky step after the next, I started to walk down the uninviting pathway.
