Lizzie/Eliza's POV
I climbed out of the bus and into the reception of the hotel. I was about to ride the stairs up to my room when I heard Dan calling me. "Oi! Doolittle!"
"I thought we were over that." I said. I wasn't in the mood for jokes.
"Hey, what's up?" He looked down at me, concerned, and rubbed my arm. I shook his hand off. "You look sad."
"I am fucking sad."
"Why?"
"I'm sad because I have to go home tomorrow. At the same time, I'm sad because I'm not going home today. I'm sad because the bus ruined our moment. And I'm sad because of how those lot treated you when you walked on the bus." I gestured to Phil's friends and family.
"Why? They were only joking."
"Dan, they made it sound like you'd won a fucking puppy at an auction. You didn't win me over. I chose you. I chose to let you kiss me." He nodded at my statement, but chose to drop the matter.
"What about the other stuff? Why are you sad about leaving?"
"I don't want to leave tomorrow, because then," She exhaled. "then I'll have to leave you."
"We'll still see each other."
"Dan, I live in fucking Wales. Can't you tell from the accent?"
"Oh! So that's where you're from. I thought it was Ireland." He winked at me, but I just glared back. Like I said, I wasn't in the mood for jokes. "There is always the possibility that you might move to London." He smiled, but i wasn't finding it very funny.
"Look, Dan, people are pissing me off here, and I miss my mum. I just want to go home." Tears lined my eyes and Dan enclosed me in his arms.
"Hey, hey, it's okay, it's okay, Eliza." He kissed the top of my head. "You're sad because the bus ruined our moment? Did you want to take things further?" Dan whispered.
"Not much further, but a bit of tongue would have been nice." I was trying to joke and have fun, but I couldn't seem to climb out of this sad deep hole.
"We could do that now." He looked down at me and wiggled his eyebrows. I just rolled my eyes.
"No, the moment passed." I said. I broke away from him and walked up the stairs.
I found Phil waiting outside his room. "You and Dan hey?" He said. I ignored him and walked straight towards the door to my room, but he followed. "You haven't already had a fight have you?" I shook my head. "Then what's up?"
"Fuck off Phil." He put his hands up, like Dan had done at the beach earlier that day. I rested my head on my bedroom door and closed my eyes. "I don't want to talk about it."
"Why?"
"Because I don't Phil." He crossed his arms, tapping his foot which echoed around the corridor, knowing I would give in eventually. "I'm probably never going to see him again after this, and even if I did, I don't want you and your mates acting like I'm some prize in all of this." He went to reply, but I had already unlocked the door and slammed it in his face.
I fell onto my bed. My thoughts whirled around my head. I liked Dan. I really did. We had fun. But I didn't want him to use me. I didn't want him to think this was a joke. That I was his little joke.
I rolled onto my back and looked at the ceiling. I really missed my mum. "You're nearly 18, Liz. You shouldn't miss your mum." I thought. I couldn't help it. I was really homesick. "One more night." I reminded myself. It made me feel less homesick knowing that at the same time the following day I'd be home. "One more night with Dan." I thought. Then that pain of confusion came back. I didn't know if I wanted to stay or go. We'd only just met, and at first I hated him, why was I now so attatched to him. It was just a bloody kiss.
There was a knock at the door and they entered without waiting for a reply. I sat up and saw Dan leaning against the wall. He exhaled.
He came and sat down next to me and put his hands round my face and kissed me. Properly kissed me. I lay back and I felt him kick off his shoes and shuffle so he was lying next to me. I opened my eyes and moved my head down and rested it on his chest. I held his top in my fists and he wrapped his arms around me, holding me tight, keeping me safe.
